The critique of nationalism is that at it's worst it devolves into blind loyalty to the state and xenophobia. Communism demands absolute loyalty to the state by default. They don't hate outsiders; they just want to absorb them against their will like the Borg from Star Trek. How is that better?
Capitalism rewards hard work and inginuity. It's not perfect and often unfair, but communism offers no rewards for high achievement at all. How is that better?
They want communism because they think their roles in spreading propaganda will give them nice cushy lives in the party's inner circle.
They won't even get nice cushy coffins.
They might be disappeared early enough to get in the inner circle of the mass grave.

About the best this lot will manage is being dumped in a mass grave by Party apparatchiks who themselves occupy their own mass grave at the next purge, leaving no evidence of their passing on the world at all.
Ironically, all communist regimes have been intensely nationalistic, because that is how the state gains support. Not to suggest that nationalism bad. In its true form, it is an identification with the nation and not the state, and opposition to the state when it acts against the interest of the nation - or indeed, other nations, as they also have a right to nationhood.
There is a third way between unregulated capitalism and communism/socialism.

I disagree, communism offers spotty and unfair rewards to the biggest and least ethical kiss-ass collaborators, which is what every current leftist is angling to be.
Venezuela and the socialist countries around the world are begging for workers.
Of course they do, leftists are delusional and spoilt. Every one of them should be shipped to China so they can experience the Marxism they crave.
China is probably more capitalist than Europe and the US.
