When a conservative podcaster came to campus, students did not want to listen
CNN's Elle Reeve takes a closer look at protests on college campuses when planned speakers are deemed controversial and whether or not today's students are interested in debate. #CNN #News
Haven't listened to that but the title is wrong.
It should be:
Yeah, if they "don't want to listen" they can literally go anywhere else.
They are explicitly trying to stop others from speaking and any public university should have them removed, by force if necessary, in order to uphold the first ammendment.
If they actually have a problem with what's being said, and not just the speaker themselves, they should have no problem crafting a coherent argument, being university educated, right..?
I'm not so sure that this is always the case.
I've seen people want to lecture on how Creationism is real due to Intelligent Design and I've seen multiple camps of students either get behind the idea, go against the idea but most vastly ignore the lectures altogether.
While the latter group did better things with their time the two former groups would set up stalls and try to convince passers by to attend or not.
Nothing heated, just expressions of opinion being shared civilly.
Now that mob rule and pitchforks are being implemented as Direct Action through the Social Justice throngs wanting their By Any Means Necessary to seem hip and edgy there is no discussion and no point to university ergo no point to attending one.
It will be the bottom line and their mortgages that will get these Marxists professors towing the line soon enough.
It's the Heckler's Veto.
Debating requires them to actually be able to form an argument that can’t immediately be disseminated. The majority of leftist arguments are irrational because they are designed entirely around emotional appeal, for example, transgender, is an oxymoronic word. There is no transition, that requires a completion from A to B. Troons are pseudo gendered, they seek to imitate but can never replicate. Other fun oxymoronic statements from the left “gay sex”, “gay marriage”, “climate change”, “intersectionality”, “anti-racism”, on and on.
"Free speech" isn't just the right to speak but also the right to listen and if some demented mutant is reeeing at the top of their lungs they are interfering with that right. And anyway they don't fucking believe this because if conservatives started shouting down their speech they would call it an "insurrection" or something.
Is it really free speech if it's attached to a pullstring?
CNN must be using the last of their petty cash to pay for those cancerous comments.
The left controls the institutions, the right is an insurgency. It is asymmetric warfare so you can't use the enemy's tactics against them and expect to get the same results.
Their people murder and loot and burn and nothing happens to them. Our people trespass and get thrown in federal prison to be tortured at the whims of the negro guards.
Their goal is to destroy everything, their tactic is chaos. Our goal is peace and preservation so using chaos is counter-productive towards our goals. We need to focus on building bulwarks against chaos and slowly expanding them, knowing that our generations are already lost, but hoping that what we build will allow our great-great-grandchildren to live at greater peace.
This is an extraordinarily wise comment. I agree 100%.
Then it's no rule at all; it's a pure power game. Whoever can shout down their opponents will control the conversation which, inevitably, leads to violence.
The classical liberals understood this, hence: I may not agree with what you say but I'll defend to thr death your right to say it".
If they don't have thr right to speak, violence becomes the language of power.
Violence isn't the language of power. Violence merely is (one primary form of) power. And only those with power, are allowed language.
Violence isn't language, it is what allows language to occur. The threat of violence, "the law and society", is what lets people speak to each-other in a civil manner, or even an uncivil manner.
Always has been.
Except conservatives would get arrested and have the book thrown at them so your point is null imo
