In October 2011, a personal video of TheAmazingAtheist was leaked on the internet depicting him performing a sexual act with a banana. The video quickly spread across other internet culture blogs, soon leading 4chan users to mobilize a raid against his Facebook page and website. On October 31st, Kincaid posted a video titled "BananaGate 2011," in which he attempted to explain the context of the banana video (shown below). The video was subsequently reblogged by IGN[6], DailyDot[7] and Escapist Magazine.[8]

It was a weak attempt to "own it" instead of hiding in shame with that sword hanging over you in every conversation. Which, granted, is the only real option you have, but it doesn't undo the damage.
I wouldn't call it perfectly, but it worked enough for his supporters to continue to be his supporters openly.
Though given his place as the "shameless asshole" of the atheist movement, he really didn't have anywhere deeper to go and they were big on that "sex positive, all kink all the time" thing at the time.
Without bothering to look into it I'm going to assume it was meant to be some kind of 'own' of that 'atheist nightmare' video Kirk Cameron and that other guy made where they tried to explain how the banana was proof of God's design because of how perfectly ergonomic it is. "your god banana fits perfectly up my ass, take that, christianity!"
Yes because accuracy matters. Some people would call slapping a child child abuse. Others would say it's disciplining that kid for biting another kid. Same for shit like bumping into someone walking past in an elevator is "unwanted contact".
Again, I'm all for context, especially in situations like those. I don't think there's any way to contextualize putting a banana in your anal cavity that makes it normal though.
That basically all of them. Now you might argue that is fine because Christians and Christianity are the dominant religion in America (and Europe) so it is fine to oppose the largest. But then you see some of them defending religous practices of "minorities" which is when you realize they only oppose the establishment or The Man.
As a life-long atheist, I used to watch him. But the instant he shoved that banana up his ass, I stopped. Not because I cared about how he got his rocks off, but because the fact that he recorded it and it put it somewhere it could leak from exposed him to be an idiot.
