The diff was denzel washington fit the part AND he is a name brand. Most of these diversity actors are no name or at best c tier. Brand name to sell the movie.

And those actors you mentioned came up in a time where they had to prove themselves like anyone else. Now with the diversity obsession if you are not white they will put you in anything, let you be a writer, or let you direct. Look at the showrunner for Witcher. She has a writing staff that hates the source material and she injects feminist garbage.
And the downside is: Denzel in Equalizer at least fit to the character. Which is probably why no one cared about it.
If it was made now, you would probably have trouble getting it off the ground. Then again, he has gotten on the bad side of a lot of the Hollywood types because, much like Morgan Freeman, he is not a race-obsessed asshole, so they dont like him now.
The one good thing I suppose is that, from some of the Hollywood-adjacent channels I watch, it sounds like some studios are actually starting to change course slowly now because 1) they need the money and arent getting it through investment anymore, 2) investors they do have are starting to get on their ass about low viewership and sales, and 3) the success of Top Gun making all of the money while both catering to the US market and shunning the China and/or Hollywood market has some C-Suite executives berating their marketing people on the grounds of "How are you so bad at this, and why is everything you have been telling me wrong?!"
So it may turn around....in about 5 years because that is the lag time on most things coming out of Hollywood.

They make drastic changes to source material and then act shocked when the fans of said source material have pushback. But they have to know that the constant pushing of race/lgbt stuff as well as massive over representation is turning people off.

At the time I hated it but as an adult I really appreciate that she did that. I would rather read books over watching tv any day of the week.

Michael B. Jordan was good in Creed and Black Panther, he's the only one who comes to mind.
