He already intended to step down with a replacement in mind. The poll has created engagement and given the people that hate him a false sense of power, which will encourage them to stick around.
These polls are perfect demonstrations of the effectiveness of democratic illusions, and democracy is always an illusion, to placate the plebs.
I want to believe that he is smart enough to know that and either puts these polls up as an example, or simply enjoys the Machiavellian dictator role and using Democracy as a tool.

I disagree that no one learns anything. While more people fall for these "worked shoots" than don't, not everyone does. I fell for Trump but learned from it. I didn't fall for Elon, and I'm far from the only one who followed this path.
I don't get why he chose to go the route of censorship. The best tool against the people he suspended is to let them talk. Without the protection of the old regime that made it look like there was no dissent to the insanity journalists spout on a daily basis most of the would meltdown within a few weeks.
Democracy is fake and gay. If one cannot curate a platform, why bother?
