There isn't a split second of time in which I actually buy that line.

This is from 2021 and afaik it was accurate. Flu is definitely back this year; my school system had 400 teachers out last week. It's way more than were ever out with coof at one time but no one seems to care (which is of course the proper response). I don't think it's that weird that one group of viruses are suppressed when a second group moves in on its niche and temporarily outcompetes it.

Yeah the guy has a 2022 followup post about it. Dunno why OP didn't just link to that one.

Flu seems going strong over here in the part of California I'm in, as well. Son caught it at school, brought it home. We've all had it now for a couple of days.

When he went back, he told me that he had 4 classes with substitute teachers, and it seemed like more than a third of each class was out.

I know that most people who think they got the flu didn't, and it was just a normal cold. I'm like 80% sure this was the flu, though. Seemed to match up. Rapid onset. Fever. All body ache. Chills. Headache.

Worst part was that he had just brought us home a regular - pretty mild - cold a week and a half before this.

I was sicker last week and the beginning of this week than I have been in years with some sort of respiratory virus. I called out sick from work for 3 days even though I work from home, which is pretty unusual for me. I just didn't want to get out of bed to do anything. Normally even if I decide I'm too sick to work or go to the gym or whatever I at least get out of bed and try to take a walk for my health.

I didn't get tested for Corona or go to the hospital or anything, but it sucked. Lots of people at my work were out, too, and the local grocery store was sold out of "cold" medicine.

Rebranded

Nah I think it was displaced. Corona is a laboratory-engineered super-virus. It just outcompeted the evolved viruses.

Dumbass article is from Aug 6, 2021, it's more than a year old and considerably out of date.

The flu has not disappeared. It was considerably smaller the past season for the obvious reason that it got crowded out by COVID:

  • The overall burden of influenza (flu) for the 2021-2022 season was an estimated 9 million flu illnesses, 4 million flu-related medical visits, 100,000 flu-related hospitalizations, and 5,000 flu deaths (Table 1).

But apparently the flu has picked up again this season:

  • "So far, this flu season is more severe than it has been in 13 years" https://archive.ph/Jgyo9

  • "CDC’s first full FluView report of the 2022-2023 flu season shows that while flu activity is relatively low overall, there are early increases happening in most of the country. This increased activity could signal an early start to flu season."

So no more flu vaxxes, right? Because the flu vaxx is painstakingly tailored to each season's variants, right? And if you can't find any, there's nothing to tailor to, right?

With the mixing of the clotshot in the flu shot, there's going to be less cases of it than usual next year.

I am one of those people whose flu shot seems to weaken their immune system. I don't know why, but other than the rare once every 20 years, the only time I've been down with the flu has been when I got that damn shot.

A more up to date follow up from the same dude on the topic, since the one OP linked if pretty old at this point:

FluA is here, where I am. I treat it daily right now.

It was ABSENT whilst the covidiosy dominated, in 2020 and 2021.

Amazingly.

I wonder if the lockdowns actually contributed to this?
