My dad was with Teamsters his entire career. Recently retired and getting his pension has been a massive pain in the ass, mainly because the head of his local union was recently caught embezzling funds for years, and they're having trouble getting it all back.
I am a current Teamster, everyone is getting has been talking about striking when it comes up next year, we just found out we don't have a strike fund. One of the only things they are supposed to take dues for and it doesn't fucking exist.
It baffles me how many people in my industry (IT) want unions. Bitch you want more money and less stress, just go get a better employer. Stop being a pushover.
Unions are a lie sold to people who know that they're too shit at their job to cut ties with an employer because they might not find another one.
It baffles me how many people in my industry (IT) want unions. Bitch you want more money and less stress, just go get a better employer. Stop being a pushover.
So they're extra dumb because virtually every IT and CS employer I've had contact with over the past year or more is desperately trying to find people. Had a guy at an ISP up here say a month ago he could double his staff overnight if he found qualified people. Had two guys e-mail me in the last week asking if I knew any of my former students who were looking for work, because they wanted people to hire.
If you're in a tech related field, and you're not happy with your current job (and competent), spend 5 minutes searching online and you'll almost certainly find people who would love to talk to you about jobs.
I think at least part of it is unrealistic expectations on the part of employers. There's like six guys out there who can do everything and every company wants them for all their roles. Unfortunately not even the people who are good at their job are unicorn tier candidates that are getting requested. There's simply too much to know and not enough willingness to train people.
Unions are leftist trash that often lobby for things like bailouts that enable corporations to even exist in the first place. The only purpose for a union is to legally protect the business through government regulations while trying to bleed the workers as much as possible through union fees, which is the only reason any union even fights for wage increases.
Unions are in part responsible for the corporatist state that (mostly western) society has gotten to. Because collectivism is a cancer.
Unions had a use early on, but that's no longer the case. Now if a unions pops up, even if the employer straitens up and doesn't abuse their employees at all, pays them fair, etc. that union will still exist, except it will start to get scared. Unions need abusive business to exist, if they fix the business they're meant to fix, people start to leave after a while because they don't need them, and new employees will not join because they don't see the point. If people leave either the union or the job (and new employees refuse to unionize), they don't pay their dues, and it they don't pay their dues, the union employees don't get their fat paycheck anymore. There are two union responses to this.
One is to cause problems, to make mountains out of mole hills, so that the employees will always be gaslit into thinking they're being saved from the evil company and they keep their money flow. This can drastically impact the income or productivity of the business, allowing them to be drug down and over come by their rivals more easily, and potentially going under completely, costing everyone their jobs, a massively negative impact on the national economy, the individuals that worked there, and the company owner.
The other, is to get into bed with the company. Every now and again there will be an incident and the union will "save" the individual from the evil company, in exchange if there is ever something the company truly NEEDS and won't budge on, you will see the union suddenly go soft, not willing to push of go to court over anything, because that's not the give and take agreement the union and the business have agreed on to drive fear into the worker in order to further exploit him. One of the best examples I've personally seen of this is there are some jobs you are REQUIRED to join a union to work at, they literally won't let you work there unless YOU pay THEM to work there and as such are enslaved to pay them for whatever they feel like doing in the moment, they don't need to fight for you, because they've already got you in a position you can't leave them unless you quite outright.
In effect, a very small union can be good but a medium to large union will instantly transform into a business of itself, and as such will protect it's income stream which unfortunately for the worker is derived purely from his own fear of being exploited.
Dues are supposed to go to three main things, strike fund, benefits / insurance, and pension. The dues where I work are relatively cheap because the pension changed from a MEP to a SEP several contracts back, and we voted to use company insurance because it was cheaper at the time. Now it turns out we don't have a strike fund, so why in the nine hells are we paying dues in the first fucking place?
national union organizations are organized crime and bag handlers for massive political corruption.
Some sort of worker organization is good and a balance for corporations, in theory. Honestly it's even hard to complain about national union corruption and grift while ignoring essentially the same corruption and grift that goes on between corps and government.
Unions’ entire existence is a “fleet in being” to keep companies honest. The mere threat of unionization gets companies to provide across-the-board benefits increases & fires deadweight staff (ironically the ones threatening to unionize in the first place.)
Unions are great in theory, but in practice, they have become just as fucking corrupt as everything else humans have built for themselves. And yeah, they do tend to be run by literal card-carrying Communists, where wiseguys don't have their fingers in the soup. And in actual Communist countries, they do what they're told, their only function is really to pass orders down to the workers.
Bit off topic, but I just saw another fucking reddit post about Raven software's union being recognized by Acti-Blizz & of fucking course the entire thread is shilling for unions.
Top comment was something like, "if you don't support unions you're bad!" This was in r/pcgaming mind you. And the comments saying it's off-topic were downvoted to hell.
Imagine shilling for a fucking tech union too? Like lol, these people just think Every Union = good for avg worker!!! And if you're against it you're a far-right Trump radical.
Nah, unions are collectivist trash that protects the worst workers to ensure they keep getting as much in union fees as possible. Unions are just middle-men that demand their cut while doing jack and shit, all while they work with corporations because consolidated businesses are beneficial for unions. That's why leftists and collectivists hate small business.
Gotta love the UFCW, friend was born a month to late and had to work an extra 10 years to get his full retirement he was promised at 55. Doesn’t matter he started working for them at 20z
Luckily he got cancer so he could retire early /s.
I was a Teamster for 15 years. All they were interested in was collecting their union dues. The end.
My dad was with Teamsters his entire career. Recently retired and getting his pension has been a massive pain in the ass, mainly because the head of his local union was recently caught embezzling funds for years, and they're having trouble getting it all back.
Looting pension funds is their specialty.
That's their old buddies, the mob.
Sums up my father's experience with carpenters union in Indy.

I used to be in a union and I had a dispute with my employer where they were completely disregarding the rules in the employee handbook.
The union wouldn't do shit for me and said "why would we help you when you're just one person, there's not much return on that for us".
Cancelled my membership that day and I'll never join a union ever again.

Unions exist only to steal money from the working man.
You forgot labor racketeering. And being some of the last remaining mafias.
Don't forget donating massive amounts of that stolen money to the DNC!
That's what corporations do...
Yeah dude corporations literally take your money from you like unions do
They by definition pay the worker less than the value of work produced. That's the definition of capitalism.
No shit. If you don't like it start your own company

Go back to reddit, Jr.

Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to collect dues.

Unions became the very thing they claimed they wanted to destroy: Corrupt racketeering fat cats.

Holy FUCK
This is retarded. The only thing worse than a union is no union.

Collectivist trash, like the Union of States we live in?
You're retarded
Projection.
Haha, you are hilarious.

Nobody gives a shit about your anecdotal evidence.
Good luck Komrade!
