Gays were always associated with pedophilia. In the 70s and 80s the "Gay rights" groups all included NAMBLA and similar other groups. The people who are considered gay "civil rights" icons were all pedos, Harvey Milk, Richard Hays, John Money, etc.
Gays are less than 1% of the population but commit sexual abuse of children at a rate that's 30-40x higher than normal people. The stereotype is just a rational response to observable pattern of behavior

Don't think those numbers are right though, and this is the best source of numbers I could find. It puts (homo/bi)sexuals at ~16x the abuse rate (100x for teachers) and about a third of the acts. So that would be 2/33; two percent does thirty-three percent
