Just gotta dig at that reply here, because manga has it's own issues. They might draw them better, but the writing is almost entirely gender swapped. Men in manga are extremely timid and feminine, while the women are boisterous and masculine. Even in the example given it's blatantly obvious.
I haven't read much in the past few years but I do see that if you stay away from the obvious "gender bender", "shouji/shounen ai", "ecchi", etc, there are genres that are still getting love to this day.
Honestly finding the really good stuff in a sea of trash and astroturfed support in manga isn't much different from finding it in books, cinema, and games. As in, takes longer than it should in a free world.
It’s pretty simple to understand. They take any stereotypically attractive female character and make her fugly. All they do is invert value structures so it’s easy to predict. Downside is that most of the time the characters fundamentally can’t happen now.
Imagine a frumpy female James Bond like they wanted to do. Or this new Karai who looks fat and weird. She’s not even unattractive so much as completely unathletic. The character is no longer plausible. You’re not supposed to relate to super heroes so much as look up to them. You can relate on personal matters but the point is that they’re trying to be the best they can be so you should too.

The older versions of She-Hulk looked like a hot chick that was green most of the time. You could change her colors and call her Wonder Woman or any other hero and it was the same generic look, just green, and sometimes she’d be more muscular when fighting.

My Hero Academia is really good. Not that far into it, but Attack on Titan has been really good so far (finished the first 3 volumes.)
