Whenever I see “teen activists” on the news I think of this quote. Activist has become yet another watered down word. (media.kotakuinaction2.win)

We collectively went wrong when we started taking teenagers' words as seriously as fully fledged, proper adults'. They are retarded. They lack the experience, maturity and perspective.
I'm not saying teenagers are not allowed to have an opinion. I sure did have. But it was a bunch of idiotic nonsense.

Now adults, freaking parents, are scared of disciplining their kids and "disrespecting" them. How pathetic is that?
I read Abigail Shrier's book. One common thing with all the little self-mutilating freaks was how their parents never dared to be strict and say no and discipline them. They acted enthusiastic for whatever the current obsession of the kid was. Mommy and Daddy heard their little princess was all about horses? WHELL, buy a ranch right now. She wanted to learn music? Buy a whole ass concert piano, get the most expensive teacher, the whole family is music people now.
Kid wants to troon? WE ARE TRANS PARENTS GET THE BUMPER STICKERS.

And what sucks is the most ignorant teens get all the attention. I was a know it all teen once so I can understand but thank God nobody put a mic in my face. At my church I teach youth Sunday school and we do projects throughout the year. Unfortunately CNN never shows up to film them volunteering at a homeless shelter.

We collectively went wrong when we pretended intrinsic genetic differences in people didn’t matter, when went straight from judge the individual to pretending everyone is equal or capable of being equal. This narrative is so far from reality it has caused mass cognitive dissonance.

You are not even equal to the person you were 5 years ago. But I’m a firm believer in looking at the individual but that is seen as bad now.

We collectively went wrong when we started taking women's words as seriously as men's. They are retarded. They lack the experience, maturity and perspective.

He specifically addressed 'teen activists' (brainwashed in schools) as well, pointing out that to allow literal children to sit in emotional judgment of their society based on a one-sided presentation of the facts is the height of folly.

Alive, yes. Kicking? For a 91 year old he's doing great, but even he is starting to get slowed down by the age

He is but mainly retired. He is in his early 90s but his books should be required reading.

Knowledge And Decisions is about how bureaucrats are actually decent at their job, but the incentives are tuned towards entirely different goals than the nominal objective of the organization and there are no repercussions for failing to meet the nominal goes. It also goes into intellectuals and how they are entirely disconnected from reality.

If you pick up any of his books on race, you'll get a fun deluge of statistics. You only really read one of them though because he rehashes the same stuff with more data. He probably had contracts to publish regularly, and updating the race book seems to have been his go to when he didn't know what to write.

They don't all have the exact same data and there is slightly different focus/spin in each, but there is heavy overlap and the broad arguments are the same. Unless you are a hardcore data nerd, pick up whichever sounds the most interesting.

Exactly. I remember him talking about that when he suggested that schools teach about slavery from a global perspective

"Activist" has always meant self-important, narcissistic, shitstirring, agitator. Someone who yells loudly to disrupt normal life because she thinks whatever problem she claims to care about is more important that the problem her targets are currently in the middle of solving.

Our subverted education system has canonized "activists" (who pushed leftist agenda) in history so we all grew up with that conditioning that "activism" is something to be admired.

Social media is doing a lot of harm towards children.. honestly, internet should be 18+. It should be anyways.

When it was harder to use, before smartphones, there was a natural gatekeeping that kept the less intelligent offline, which often correlated with being more mature. (not necessarily over 18, and not always true judging by the Usenet flame wars)

I thought Sowell was a libertarian? At least I'm pretty sure he doesn't support "the system" as it exists today.

Sowell comes off as a closet segregationist when you read between the lines. He is closer to defending the antebellum South's conception of liberalism than typical conservativism.

You think so? I always thought he believed individuals should be able to associate with who they want and judge by content of character. Which is pretty much what I think. I know he is against the “anti-racist” nonsense. I have seen him attacked as a white supremacist

Freedom to associate implies the freedom to self-segregate. He's definetely against forced integration and generally frowns on the civil rights activists. It's the same intellectual heritage as Booker T Washington, who brokered the Atlanta compromise.

In a true free society people have the right to self segregate. So I think people should have the right to voluntarily integrate or segregate as they choose. But I see what you mean now. I am a fan of Booker T Washington as well. I have friends of different races although as I’ve gotten older I notice my friends are more traditional/right of center so I guess I segregate in that sense.

I think the government should have equal opportunity but like you said private individuals should have free association

I thought of that quote because I’ve seen my young cousins think they are fighting for something by holding up a sign condemning racism. But you are right. I firmly believe that stirring up racial strife and the destruction we saw during protests does help the ruling class.

Interesting points you are making. Thanks for commenting. I enjoy Sowell’s work but you do make good points.
