Didn't they hand that same seat over to the Saudi's a few years ago? The UN is a joke.
iirc the UN also declared Venezuela to be the head of the UN Human Rights Commission a couple of years back.
I lived in Ukiah CA for many years and I remember in the 70's and the 80's there was an odd billboard on hwy 101 as you dropped into the Ukiah valley, that proclaimed "Get The US Out of The UN" signed by the John Birch Society. I was always puzzled by it. I'm not puzzled anymore.
The galaxybrains at UN have this idea that putting the worst offenders as the head of the UN's efforts to solve the problem, will make the leaders of those nations take the problem more seriously.
Similar to how they believe that giving little Jamal an iPad and a laptop will make him want to try hard in school.

Back then, there was whining about how it was all the US and USSR and their respective satellites, and how the "little guys" didn't have a voice.
The modern UN is an example of the "little guys" being given a voice. Canada needs to get the fuck out of it, too.

How do these things even get decided? The UN puts out an index measuring sexism or whatever. Shouldn't there be a requirement that anyone on the counsel have a score in, say, the top quartile to be on the Commission?
