I’d love a faithful adaptation of Starship Troopers
For sure. The movie we got was still pretty good though. Gotta love how Verhoeven meant the movie to say one thing, but then he ended up doing the complete opposite by accident.
(some of) Verhoven's movies are so good they have to be the product of an ironic genie.
Its like he wishes to satirize some subject or genre but the genie instead makes an exemplary example of it that perfectly rides the edge where it can simultaneously be enjoyed seriously and as a send up, depending on the position of the viewer.
I don't remember anything about the movie but I do remember my Dad rocking out to the Scorpions song in the soundtrack and telling me how it was better than "todays music" because he thought it was Rolling Stones because Mick Jagger was on the VHS case.
Then I showed him it was a contemporary band and he was quiet and embarrassed.
Yeah, Jagger played the main antagonist in the movie (as the guy sent to hunt down Estevez), but I don't think any Stones music was actually in it.
Anyway, I think the book was called Immortality, Inc, and I found it to be mostly just a kind of boring love story, BUT it did feature "suicide booths" of the sort later seen in Futurama ...
Book by Brian Neimeier. Basically explaining that there is a lot of free older entertainment as well as independent stuff. Also talks about how famous IPs no longer care about the fans and seek to push agendas
Most of what I watch is 2014 or prior. I stopped buying new marvel/comics and buy indies or back issues. Lots of classic bbc as well. So much old stuff that I couldn’t go through in my life. I am currently watching. Babylon 5 and recently got the complete Conan by Robert Howard.
Just go back to the original intention of the copyright. Give the original creator a few years head start on making money and then after that it's fair game. Let the best movies rise to the top and choose your own cannon.
I hate with a passion what they are doing to most things I like but I do agree with you. I still feel bad that I computer games rather then learn some new skills.
They started that with Prometheus, retconning the dangerous Black Beast as a creation of the big evil White Man. Even the color of aliens is political today.
Ellen Ripley is a Hollywood feminist's ideal character: strong, self-reliant and masculine in her role and behavior. But they still won't touch her because the wrong people like her.
Ripley isn't a feminist's ideal character because Ripley isn't a feminist.
Look at Scarlett Witch in the Avengers. She's ridiculously powerful, and fans like her. Compared to Captain Marvel, equally ridiculously powerful, but fans hate her. Which one is the feminist icon?
When a feminist says she wants a strong female character, what she actually means is a feminist character. What she actually wants is the division, the argument, the strife. She wants to piss off her dad. And her dad likes Ripley.
She was only a strong female really because it was written for a male originally. That's why this crap gets more and more unbelievable, and unwatched...

edit: sorry about the double post, it looked like it didn't work the first time (I had javascript turned off).
Well thankfully Ridley already ruined the franchise with Prometheus so it wont hurt as bad to see another abomination made. I doubt it could possibly be worse than what they have done to Predator.
Kinda wonder how come they never made another Aliens movie. I meant Alien 2 with the colonial marines. I think the most popular was Alien and Aliens even though the two movies were polar opposite in content. One was horror and one was action. If you look at pop culture (yeah ewww), most references is from Alien and Aliens. No one gives a shit about alien 3, alien ressurection or the newer retconning alien movies.
Like.. movies these days have no gung ho or testosterone. Ahhhh thats it. No testosterone.
The answer is actually a long one. The original pitch and first couple scripts for Aliens 3 were more like Aliens. Ripley was meant to be pushed aside while Hicks would of taken the starring role. Hollywood meddling and writer/director disatisfaction sunk it though. Then came quite a few more scripts, with action (Including an incredible one of a proto "Riddick" escaping from a prison in space, scenes of which were word for word in both Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick).
However after script after script was turned down, Hollywood executives decided they needed Ripley to propel the franchise forward. Problem was Sigourney Weaver didn't want to do another film. In came Vincent Ward with his "Wooden Planet/Monk Script" which finally changed Sigourney's opinion.
While the original plot probably would of made for a tense movie, it would of been obscenly expensive to shoot. So they took the basic outline, slapped in the prison plot from the "Riddick" script, changed the monks to prisoners and gave it to a young and upcoming director. Hence Alien 3 and why it's so different from the proceding films.
The franchise died with Prometheus and I saw the original in theaters. I’ve been along for the entire ride. TBH, Alien 3 is when shit jumped the shark and it was heavily mocked.
Watch them if there’s nothing else and you’re bored to death but don’t expect anything other than garbage.
Another creatively bankrupt use of a decades old franchise.
Can we make a law banning reboots? Or banning adaptations that don’t respect source material
While they are few and far between there is still the very occasional instance of the movie being better than the original book or media.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit, for example.
Forrest Gump is another. But yea, few and far between. I’d love a faithful adaptation of Starship Troopers

True it was good. I didn’t know it was a book till early 2000s.
I think the closest we ever got was the CGI Saturday morning cartoon version.
Also Freejack.
That's a name I've not heard in a long time

Just thought I would share.

Lol at The Scorpions being contemporary. I'd agree with your dad today, since The Scorpions are better than today's music. ;)
listen here whippersnapper, this was in the early 90s when the movie came out and MTV didn't suck as much and the Scorps were a big deal!
I was kidding about the law but yea we just need to follow the rules of the book don’t give money to people who hate you.

Just don't watch it. Tell your friends.

So... The Babylon Bee was right again, the new movie will be about the Xenomorph Queen being a yaaas slaaay sympathetic villain?
They'll introduce a white Xenomorph king to oppress the black Xenomorphs
They literally already did that in Aliens 4.

Media becoming more trash is a blessing in disguise. Read more, learn skills, make stuff. Turning everyone off of consooming is only a good.
I hate with a passion what they are doing to most things I like but I do agree with you. I still feel bad that I computer games rather then learn some new skills.
Xenomorph Lives Matter
Trans micheal fassbender transforms into the xenomorph queen and lays waste to straight white men, only to be stopped by Elliot Page

If she even had one
Remake every movie with a strong female lead, but have them played by a tranny.

No they aren't
I don't want a new Alien movie.
Not another Melissa McCarthy vehicle

It already was. The white man turned out to be evil in both of them. Both of them bombed like Fat Man on Nagasaki.
