I'm not sure why I should be expected to place any weight on the output of a scientific advisory group (the UK's SAGE group) that recommended rule by fear.
More or less, and it was kinda obvious based on the signaling in the news back in the summer (possibly sooner) that The Powers That Be wanted very badly to be able to flip the 'Lockdown' switch at will.
It was whenever Joe was talking about covid on the campaign trail that it was very clear what they wanted. The virus will come back whenever they think it helps them domestically, and that's that. They don't seem to care that there are ploys that you can only really get away with once, and they really don't care how much trust in government has been burned since this began. It may as well be a bonus feature for them at this point.
Fear is addictive for people who don't care to look into current events too deeply, and I just hope enough average democrat voters wake up from this indulgence that they can start agitating for reform in their party. That would be the happier way for this to resolve, but I don't know if it will happen quickly enough. They're the ones who are really missing in the discussion.

Keeping demand for goods and services low -- and therefore spending low -- will dampen the impact of massive inflation from poofing into existence, what, like 30% of all dollars ever within the past year.
