In the alphabet soup movement, there are various acronyms of the various groups they try to bring into the forefront, popularize, and get buy-in of future memberships. Some, like the Q, I, and A, get more or less immediate acceptance into the acronym. Some like 2S (or 2+, occasionally) get derided initially but eventually publicly lauded. "MAP" is the progressive PC term for pedophelia that they've used several times in the past in their efforts to get it under the rainbow umbrella as just another sexuality, short for "minors-attracted person". It has had a small but vocal support in the movement with minimal pushback (because of course to pushback the narrative by accident would be death itself to them, so they stay quiet even on outlandish things like "MAP", just in case, because even they can't keep their own narrative straight.)
Self harming counts regardless of intent towards suicide. This repeats with every time someone /wrists or cuts elsewhere meaning one individual can and will account for multiple "suicide attempts" despite having utterly zero intent towards actually committing suicide.
Now compare that with a 40 something year old man who eats a 12 gauge and unsurprisingly not only does his "attempt" not get counted because he's going to be successful, but he won't be getting the chance to add any more counts to any other category apart from "just another forgotten man".
Quite apart from whether this is accurate, "self-esteem" is absolute crap. The claim by snake oil salesmen that self-esteem causes success or lack thereof has long been refuted.
The problem right now is too much self-esteem, not too little. People consider themselves big shots, important, intelligent, beautiful when they are not. They need to be taken down a peg to their proper place.
