"No amount of money in any currency can truly compensate the life of a human being."

Okay. Then I guess Germany is square with giving nothing.

The UN has a price per human head. The USA has a price per human head (discounted in bulk). Just look up court rulings, they're very clear on easily quantifiable dollar value of a human, or cheaper if you kill a whole bunch of humans.

It's psychopathic to look at it that way, but it's also psychopathic to take reparations as a country, when as a country, YOU aided in exterminating the tribe they're supposedly reparating. It would be like the USA demanding Spain give reparations to the USA in the form of government blank cheques, because Spain killed first nations.

German politicians are on an endless guilt trip and desperate to give their money away due to the war

Total shitshow in all regards.

AFAIK back then some plague caused cattle to die. Two tribes blamed white settlers and started killing them. The German security force commander responded by driving the tribes off into the desert and a lot of them starved to death. To make his bitch ass sound more important the German commander exaggerated his actions in his reports home and the guilt-ridden politicians of today take his accounts at face value.

Fast forward to today: the majority ruling tribe wasn't involved back then and is actually at odds with the affected tribes. Last I read the current government accepted the money but it's unlikely the tribes of the victims are actually going to see any of it because they are rivals of the current government. Probably a good part of the reason those tribes don't like the offer.

wait, so the current ruling tribe wasn't even affected by this incident?

Yea.

The affected tribes are Herero and Nama (who make up about 12% of the population).

The ruling party is dominated by the Ovambo (who make up about half the population).

German politicians at the time were quite critical of it as well. Von Buelow criticized the action as un-Christian, and both the Catholic Center Party and the Social Democrats were critical of it.

I have a new offer, that is not as generous as the previous one but I believe it to be fair: $0

What's the take? "It'll never be enough?" Or "for all their virtue signalling, that paltry amount is what they offer?"

As always, both:

  • The initial offer is insulting, i.e. pony up.
  • One can never place a value on life, i.e. we need to milk what we can get indefinitely.

It’s always going to be that way when you try to do reparations. They will just cry that it’s not enough

I don't entirely blame Namibia here.

If you knew that the German government was so stupid that they would intentionally hurt themselves to appease you, as a nation as poor as fucking Namibia, why the fuck wouldn't you milk them dry?

"Something something Hitler something you hate black people something global south something give me fishing rights."

The German elites will do anything to virtue-signal. Namibia is being smart, albeit immoral, in exploiting this. Once you open the door to this sort of nonsense, you are on the hook forever.

Don't they still have these German statues, or did Must Fall get them?

Late last month, over a century later, the German government for the first time ever issued a formal apology amid a push for reparations. Berlin followed with a pledge of 1.1 billion euros (almost $1.3BN) toward infrastructure development for Namibia. However, it stopped short of offering direct reparations.

Namibian Vice President Nangolo Mbumba issued a statement on Friday, saying "No amount of money in any currency can truly compensate the life of a human being."

"We need to recognize that the amount of 1.1 billion euros agreed upon between the two governments is not enough and does not adequately address the initial quantum of reparations initially submitted to the German Government," he added.
