Hell, I remember when Free Parking was officially just that. Nothing's supposed to happen, and all fines were supposed to go to the Bank, but the "kitty" idea was a house rule that spread.
Just thought of that, the "kitty" is socialism I guess. Government claims money and instead of doing useful shit with it like building roads (or obviously fake useful shit in Monopoly), they just give it back to the people for doing nothing but sitting around.
I always liked playing without that. That money is supposed to be a drain on the economy for one and it turns the tide for a game when someone else played it better.
I got family to try monopoly without the pool and it was amazing how much better (and faster) it made it go. God what a crap houserule
