This is not an isolated case, one of my wife's colleague told her after finding out she was going to have a daughter that she would have aborted him if it was a boy. I would also want to add that she was close to 40 and had struggled for years to remain pregnant, hormone therapy and all that. She hated men that much. My wife, who is religious felt disgusted and physically ill from hearing that.

I expect to be a lot more common then most people think. There is something so profoundly evil yet accepted by society that makes me question the inherit goodness of humans.
