He lost because his authoritarian social structure is inherently unstable, and is incapable of effectively coordinating an entire society on the global scale, similar to how the Soviet Union collapsed and China is falling apart right now.
More likeable?
No, I was mystified that you would put 'likeable' (however it's spelled) and feminists in the same sentence. I am pretty sure that they are as likeable as the Taliban. Maybe less so.
