I never gave a fuck about trans until recently. In the 90s there was a M2W trans person at the place I used to get my hair cut at. In the early 2000s I had a W2M trans co-worker. Never cared about either of them. I treated them like I treated everyone else.
Now I fucking hate them. They are one of the most privileged groups now. Nobody is allowed to say anything bad about them (Dave Chappelle is right, btw). Businesses have had to change policies for them. Major corporations pander to them. They are over-represented (relative to their actual demographics) in popular media.
How the actual fuck did the trans community, who are less than 1% of the population, convince the general populace that they need to be catered to and pandered to? This is something that strategists will study for decades. Of all the minority groups, why this one and not something like albinos or archery enthusiasts or people with dwarfism?

Even the major studios started to abandon SDCC right before 2020. Disney was going to stop doing panels entirely and instead focus on their own D23 Expo. Warner Bros was going to follow suit. The major studios were starting to realize that they were getting incorrect data points from SDCC. SDCC was telling them that Snakes on a Plane and Scott Pilgrim were going to be hits, but they were both flops. The comic book industry is just starting to realize that Twitter is the same - that pandering to the Twitter and Tumblr crowd is pointless because those communities are a very small but very vocal minority that does not even pay for content.
The last SDCC I went to was 2015. I just lost interest after that. I don't miss cons at all. I had 5 day tickets to go to 2020 SDCC and I was actually relieved that it got canceled and I was able to get a full refund.
This production likely cared more about the vax status of all cast and crew than whether or not a gun was fucking loaded with live ammunition.
