And all the other devs are seething over its reception, going so far as to say "you need to lower your expectations when it comes to games."

No, Grey Delisle has nothing to do with THAT garbage heap. She's the current Daphne in the various Mystery Inc series (which "Velma" most certainly is not a part of).
