Every single female fighter pilot would not be in even the top 100 candidates for her spot.

That is, if she can do it well enough, then 99 men can do it better. Not to say that she might be a bad pilot or a danger; she just wasn't selected by merit.

Not only that, I'd love to see the stats on how many of the female fighter jocks leave to have a baby and never come back. Fighter pilot is massively training intensive profession. Every hours in the cockpit of a fighter jet costs tens of thousands of dollars. For her to pack up and leave at 27 because she wants a family robs the military of almost all of the return from that training.

This problem isn't unique to fighter jocks. It is also a problem with engineers, surgeons, specialist doctors etc. For a company just looking for return on investment on training and development, the more training a job requires the dumber it is to put that money into a young woman.

Perhaps at least as important is that these high training, high profile careers at the expense of a family are not making women happy. Many career women who sacrificed a family in their 20s (which is forever if we are honest) deeply regret their choices at 40 or 50.

Venture Capital Investment, in general, destroys the value of a company.

The VC model, more or less, goes like this:

  • Identify a company with explosive growth potential
  • Buy in on the ground floor to gain a big slice of equity at a low price
  • The company uses that investment money to improve their market position
  • The company is sold to a huge company for the cost of the VC investment plus a whole lot, which gives the VC company excellent returns

In reality, VC needs to achieve returns that are better than other, comparable investments. While there are inconsistencies in the market, a simple indexed fund can make about 10% year on year with (relatively) low risk and (relatively) low cost.

So it follows that VC needs an investment to make better than 10% year on year. Few companies can make anything like this as sustained growth. Moreover, the longer the investment continues before a sale the more money the VC requires to meet their target.

There are really only a few big companies who have the kind of funds to splash around on new technology acquisitions. If you can't catch the attention of Google, Microsoft, GM or the like, then a high value sale is very unlikely.

With a bit of thought, we can see that the business model of a company that has received a large VC investment is totally different to another company in the field. VC company isn't focused on good service, steady growth or customer satisfaction; they need the company to grow quickly and be very attractive for a buyout. Their product is actually the company itself, and the market is potential investors, not whatever widgets or services they sell to the public.

The reality is that VC adds a huge expense to any potential company sale. VC puts enormous pressure on the company to sell out in two or five years. There is huge, cutthroat competition to sell to the tech giants or industry leaders.

Profitable startups that have received VC investment and then gone on to sale and success, more or less, originate with YCombinator and nowhere else. Even then, almost all YCombinator alumni have been zombie companies. That is, companies that subsist on VC investment but do not have a successful business model.

If it interests you, I can discuss why VC almost universally makes shitty investments.

Examples of YCombinator Zombie Companies include Reddit and Twitch. In fact, almost everything on the top 50 list of YCombinator companies is a Zombie company. Perhaps AirBnB is profitable now? They were having huge issues with insurance, but that might be solved.

I'm happy to discuss this more if anyone cares. I spent literally a year of my life learning about VC investment and how to chase it before deciding it was mostly shit.

tldr: Venture Capital Investment is a shitty business model. Bankers and accountants, who know nothing about the technical risks of a venture, invest vast amounts of money chasing one-in-a-million long-shot because Facebook did it once. Almost all VC money is invested badly and written off as a loss.

It drives me bananas. So many sites have the title in Japanese without translation. I get that they want to be specific, but I don't speak Japanese.

I can't remember a title I have to learn phonetically.

"Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon" is memorable. "Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka" is not.

Is no one going to draw attention to the hammer and fucking sickle on their image?

I mean, the Palestinian flag is tacit support for Hamas and genocide, but the Soviet Union killed about a hundred million people.

What the fuck does she think capitalisms is?

Have you asked her? Does she even know?

Capitalism, the term, was invented by Marx. Is she honestly a Marxist who thinks that child trafficking will end if we are all good little socialists?

Ask her: "If you Marxists are content with letting thousands of kids get raped every night to bring about the Workers' Revolutions, what will you do to stay in power?"

Neo Marxists are unironically evil. Calling her one of Stalin's Useful Idiot's is too kind.

The MLP comics have been consistently good. Far, far better than they have any right to be. The writing is stellar compared to anything brought out by Marvel or DC.

Astro Boy was the English Language name for Tetsuwan Atom. I grew up with the 1980s (color) remake of the original 1963 version.

It is very much for children, and it was my introduction to Japanese Animation, and it was wonderful.

You are probably a bit old for it, but you really did miss out.

I can recommend Patlabor. It is an interesting character study which is full of human motivations and politics pretending to be a giant robot show.

The robots are cool, that just isn't the focus of the show.

Reminding people that Bret and his wife immediately moved to Portland, started a Youtube career and made a bunch of stupid comments about the election.

Bret is an excellent teacher, no doubt, but he was at Evergreen because it was one of the most left-wing campuses in history.

Events have seen him (somewhat) red pilled, but he still has a long way to go.

Hey, that sounds exactly like Amelia Earhart! Shitty pilot (notoriously bad in aviation circles) who was promoted because she was pretty and photogenic.

Amelia's navigator and radioman Fred Noonan was reportedly one of the only people who would fly with her. He had a well known drinking problem and was seen drunk on the day they departed.

Amelia didn't know how to operate her own radios. She could not use Morse Code. She did not follow the guidance signals from the coast guard.

By all accounts she missed the tiny island that was her refueling stop and crashed on an atoll.

Now do Kara Hultgreen.

Oh wait. Here is a very authoritive video on the subject.

Polymers (plastics) become strong through a process called cross-linking.

A polymer is a ultra-long molecule. Think of a regular molecule as a pea, where as a polymer is a strand of noodles.

When a plastic is poured into shape, cross linking ties every noodle together where they touch. This gives the plastic a fixed shape.

When you recycle the plastic, either through heating them (for thermo-plastics) or melting them with solvents like acetone, most of the polymers are conserved. That is the macro-molecules remain long.

However the properties that allow cross-linking between the polymer strands is severely degraded.

I will give you an example. DVD cases made out of recycled plastic are brittle and break easily. They are utterly shitty for the job of keeping your DVDs safe.

Some plastics are more recyclable than others. Some plastics are strong enough that even at 50% strength they are still useful. MOST are not.

For example, recycling plastic milk jugs would see milk jugs shredded and then combined with 50% new plastic to produce a milk jug that is 50% recycled plastic.

A Leaf, eh?

There was a court case here in Australia. Nissan was selling a replacement (discounted) battery for more than the resale price of the car. This was in spite of there being a serious design fault in the early Leaf batteries that seriously degraded their lifespan.

Early Leaf models had batteries that didn't have an active cooling system, that is a fluid pump and radiator. The heat issues drastically shortened the battery life.

Step 1 for an Authoritarian state is to control the media.

Step 2 is to create a crisis that can be solved by Taking Strong Action.

Step 3 is to demand temporary sacrifices from the citizens.

The Honey Badgers have remained true. They are OG MRAs and Mike and Alison do it as a full time job.

Mike's interviews are always interesting. Alison has the kind of laser focus and relentless determination that is required to actually make progress in world hostile to their message.

Alison gets bonus points for being thrown out of Canadian pop-culture cons forever (more or less) for supporting GamerGate and making feminists uncomfortable.

Karen has a deep knowledge of history and some of the most lucid takes. Hanna used to be a professional news reporter, and she is immune to bullshit.

There are other regular contributors, and they are not really into the whole "brevity thing" but I am grateful to have discovered their channels.

Bret Winestine was pretty frank about his settlement with Evergreen State College. He was absolutely in the right and had the receipts. It would have taken five years and a huge bankroll to prove it in court.

He and his wife (a fellow professor) took the settlement because it was a good start on switching to another career. It should have been two or three times as much, but they were not going to get it soon enough to be relevant.

For the record, I think Bret is a douche. He immediately moved to Portland and then launched a Youtube career by making a bunch of stupid comments about the election. If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.
