A lot of single motherhood in the US is caused by the way we do welfare. If we didn't punish them for having a father living with them and contributing then we wouldn't be where we are with it. For every 2 dollars you earn, you lose 1 dollar in benefits, so instead of discouraging work with it, you encourage working.
