A lot of single motherhood in the US is caused by the way we do welfare. If we didn't punish them for having a father living with them and contributing then we wouldn't be where we are with it. It was designed that way to keep people on the doll, or seems to be from the results of it. If you wanted to reduce it, cut out benefits on a 2 for 1 scheme. For every 2 dollars you earn, you lose 1 dollar in benefits, so instead of discouraging work with it, you encourage working.
There’s nothing morally ugly about a socially enforced moral framework that shames people into doing what is right for both themselves and time community.
What did you think religion was? And why would you think the alternative is anything other than tyranny or chaos?
I'd argue part of the problem is weak men. Men too weak to either not stick it in crazy or stick around when their actions create life. A lack of good, strong father figures is a huge contributor to a lot of our modern problems.
Fully backed by the "every human foetus is sacred" crowd.
I think abortion is undoubtedly murder yet I am disturbed when I see the results of mass single motherhood in western society.
Single motherhood is a problem that only has practical but morally ugly solutions.

Abolish wellfare, and there will be no single mothers.
I am all for it.
It is easier said than done.
