The telephone is the most destructive invention of the 20th century. The idea that a stranger could interrupt the peace and sanctity of your home with an alarm that you are socially obligated to respond to immediately is pure barbarism. The flaws were apparent immediately and the cracks have spread every year to the point where the entire system is unfit for any purpose. Shut it all down.
Just turn off your phone. You realize that's always an option, right? Or just set it to do not disturb.
This is the same mommy fascist state bullshit as requiring ID to shitpost online because of "cyberbullying" or the like. To butcher-quote an old bit, "nigga, just turn off the screen. Just look away".
Fuck right the hell off with trying to reduce the advancement and quality of civilized life, right alongside the "just give up your car and computer to save the planet, bro" retards.
Correct. I have had my phone on do not disturb for well over a decade, reducing it to essentially an even shittier email service (email is also unfit for purpose). Now all I need to do is convince everyone in the entire world to do the same thing so they're not answering jeet scam calls on their car's touch screen dashboard while their 4 ton SUV hurtles through a red light directly into my driver's side door.
Oh and did you know if someone calls you enough times in a row, it will break through the do not disturb on android? There's a second "do not disturb, for real" setting you have to turn on.
Just shut the whole thing down. We have the internet, there are uncountably many chat apps that are superior to the phone system. We don't need this shit.

Brother, if you think turning the phones off and making everyone use chat applications will fix this, you're insane. A large percentage of crashes nowadays are BECAUSE people are using chats and texting while driving.
You're not getting rid of phones. The reason phones exist is because people want them. If you "shut it all down", someone will just make a new one and re-invent the wheel.
And, quite frankly, I'm tired of ordering society around the lowest common denominator. I object most stridently on having my rights violated and my privileges revokes because someone else, somewhere else, MIGHT not be trusted to have them.
For a final point, absolutely fuck anything to do with centralized government databases for identity verification. Those are massive, juicy, lightly-armored targets staffed by morons, and they'll be constantly attacked by bad actors looking to steal and monetize information you CAN'T CHANGE, like biometrics. Look at what happened in France a few days ago; what was it, 1/3 of the population's data was leaked from a hack? No, fuck that. Government agencies can't be trusted with this shit.
Even in the 70s. We had a switch on the side of the phone. It said "Ringer." The options were Off, On, Loud.
We turned it off often.
Loud, I think, was a joke setting. It didn't actually do anything noticable.
Anyways.. people are trained by school that they have to respond to the ringing bell. They never wonder why schools even used bells in the first place. It's to train you like pavlovs fucking dogs.
Ease of communication favors the organized. Which is to say it favors the kind of people who organize and collude and plot and scheme. It does not favor the average person, who uses it like a toy instead of a weapon.
Sure it's had positive uses. But pretending like it didn't have a large number of severe and far reaching drawbacks is foolish.
If the FCC actually wanted to stop the spam, all they have to do is force a two way connection. If the phone number on the CallerID does not match the source, simply do not connect the call.
If we wanted to stop spam calls we would be bombing the call centers in third world countries and telling their governments to get their shit together or we'll keep bombing until there is nothing left of their shithole of a country. It would be the first time I ever supported my tax dollars going towards military adventures overseas.

I'd like to propose one small amendment to your plan, and I'm onboard.
Nah, you'd see other third world countries step in to fill the void or the jeets would figure out how to spoof the call origin. It would be a tremendous first step towards solving the issue though so I think we should do it regardless of whether or not it represents a total solution.
Any call originating from outside the US should cost $1 to connect. I'll allow for exceptions from Japan and Korea, and if Western Europe ever gets their act together they can be included as well.
Can't afford $1? Too damn bad. We don't need to hear from you.

I don't pick up my phone unless I know who it is. And it's on mute.
Skill issue.
What the fuck, no.

You know what the phone created? Wall Street.

I don't disagree with your point, but I think cheap, reliable transportation is worse. A phone won't scatter your clan to the four winds.

This is of course about the Panopticon instead.

I'm harsh not malicious.
Just block India from accessing the US phone system and you solve every current problem with phones.

Is will this apply to spoofed numbers used for jeet scams?
Weird how the proposed solution to everything is just cough up ID.
Not actual solutions, of course, just promises that "no, for real, broadcast your identity and everything will be great, bro, I promise bro."
