2012 is about right. There's plenty of Big Three cars that were able to go 250-300K miles before that point, but after that, it's mostly Toyota and Honda- and a Subie or two.
I think they were more concerned with the insurance of their own fleet vehicles going up. But they at least payed some lip service for it being an offence against ordinary citizens.
My jeeps center screen cried about not being able to sync with my ‘phone’ for 5 years. I don’t own a cell phone, but my truck didn’t think so. It might know shit about me but it can’t transfer the info. After 5 years it gave up.
I really wish there was a copyright reform so it'd be completely legal to modify the firmware on any device you own and being able to publish it. Heck, make it mandatory to be able to flash your stuff.
I'm so sick of companies making everything worse with updates. Working in IT is starting to look like blacksmiths making chains during slavery.
Pre 2012 cars (I’m pulling that number out of my ass) will be like pre-ban 1986 machine guns.

In addition, when you sell the car, all that information about you is just sitting there on the car.
Connected your phone to your car's bluetooth? it's not all on the car.
GM was sued(is being sued?) by the State of Texas for this.
Texus probably just wants access to the data so they can arrest you for not supporting israel.

Would like to see Dodge sue Ford over this...not because they want surveillance for themselves, but because they like suing Ford.

Hope they're looking forward to listening to the opening of Pufffin Rock a billion times while it plays for my autistic neice.
Darn it. The fuse blew.
What is ironic about this post is the youtube link has the si tracking code on the end of it.
