I'm surprised he was actually convicted of a hate crime.

But honestly man, this myth of rehabilitation has got to die. It's one thing if it's a guy with an exemplary record who steals one thing one time. These career criminals just keep criming, and they're just given infinite second chances.

Prison was never supposed to be about rehabilitation. It was always supposed to be 1) retribution on behalf of both the aggrieved and society 2) removal of dangerous peoples from society. We ceded our right to revenge to the states in order to prevent escalation and promote order, but we still expect the state to carry out just punishments. Rehabilitation was only ever a tertiary consideration.

The "problem", as always, is that blacks commit way more crime and are then (correctly) subjected to way more punishment. So suddenly - in the eyes of leftists - rehabilitation became the entire purpose of the criminal justice system. Like it's fucking career education or a jobs fair. Endless mercy and empathy for the scum of the earth while victims and their loved ones are ignored. It's inversion bordering on satanic.

Worse still, this is coming from people who do not acknowledge genetically or biologically determined behavior. So they believe that everyone can be rehabilitated, that no one is naturally inclined to violence or crime. Leftist "rehabilitation" is really just a revolving door that maintains and even escalates public risk in order to protect the blank slate lie.

Exactly. When I'm victimised, my priority is not the poor victim of circumstance who stole my wallet, it's that I'm a) made whole and b) won't be victimised again.

I have to wonder how many victims of these criminals are immediately victimised again as soon as they get out (especially in Black neighbourhoods). It's not even just about removing generally dangerous people from society but protecting the actual victim from retribution for going to the authorities in the first place.

Sadly, I'm coming to understand why Blacks don't call the police; not because of BLM "cops finna shoot me" nonsense but because they're almost certain to have their life made even worse when the system fails to hold their a user in prison.

Rehabilitation was only ever a tertiary consideration.

We used to hang people for cattle rustling. No shit rehabilitation wasn't a part of it.

rehabilitation became the entire purpose of the criminal justice system

Putting people in a cell while preserving their "civil rights" for several years does absolutely nothing. They come out the same as they went in. You might as well try to teach them how to read.

Like it's fucking career education or a jobs fair.

Yea, a lot of people choose to go to jail for the awesome career options it affords. They do this because private prisons earn more money when people reoffend. So you "help" them by setting them up for failure.

Endless mercy and empathy

If only. No, it's just that you and your family are bait for private prisons. That's all. They don't give a fuck about outcomes in either direction.

What private prisons?

Less than 8% of all correctional facilities of every level of government, local, state and federal is privately owned, and that percentage has been shrinking.

Leftists use the mythical scourge of private prisons as a boogeyman claiming they have so much power over the prison system of this nation that they can ensure there will be repeat offenders.

Nothing is further from the truth.

Prison is a modern luxury. 200 years ago, housing and feeding people for decades was unrealistic. Serious crimes resulted in execution.

Rehabilitation and execution exist in conflict with one another. Either they can be rehabilitated or they're forever a danger and should be executed.

I don’t think he was, I know they removed the modifier for at least most of the 4 people involved

Could've sworn I read somewhere that the hate crime charges of all of them got dropped the second the right wasn't paying attention anymore.

Guess not.

Explain to me why these judges can’t be punished? At the very least they should have to live with the criminals they let off

The judges can be punished but you have to do the punishing.

What, why the people who interpret the law aren't held accountible under it?

They can be punished, just not under the framework they infest.
