Trump couldn't stop claiming that he totally obliterated the Iranian nuclear program every two weeks for the last 8 months to now bomb Iran again to stop their nuclear program.
It isn't a matter of trust in this case. It's just unlikely he would come out like that unless it was fairly certain. It's the type of thing that, if not true, would be countered quite quickly.
Of course that doesn't get into the possibility that they captured him alive and we'll simply never see him again, but that's another can of worms entirely and I don't think there's any reason to think that's likely this time anyway.
