Tom Cotton says that Venezuelans won't be able to pay teachers, police, or firefighters unless they cooperate with the US (twitter.com)

The majority of Central/ South America has repeatedly shown it’s incapable of modern civilization. This is going to fail and cost the US billions because at the end of the day the Venezuelan people are incapable of self governance. Even the US has been in a free fall from that ability to the point it’s now heavily fractured, yet we keep pretending tabula rasa is real and anyone can be an “American”.

It was fine back when whites were in charge. The primary problem came from the papacy openly championing bestiality, rather than condemning or ignoring it.

On the eve of Mexican independence, Mexico was fully ⅓ white. And that’s counting pure blood Indio numbers, which the US wouldn’t do in its own censuses. Without them, Mexico was 50% white, with the rest being a mystery meat assortment of caucasoid/americoid mixes and only a handful of Africans.

Now look at it. You don’t see a criollo or a peninsulare outside of advertising.

Your very specific knowledge and vocabulary on this topic is fascinating.

Latin America, despite its widespread miscegenation, used to have a staunch racial caste system. In the early 1800s, the collapse in Spanish administrative authority (being puppeted by Napoleon didn’t help) was only one of the reasons for the Latin American revolutions. See, the crown had begun to allow nonwhites to buy their way into whiteness. That is to say, if you were rich enough, you could simply pay the crown to be legally considered a higher caste.

The criollos in Latin America didn’t like that one fucking bit. Many peninsulares also hated it, even if they still looked down on criollos. And so… they seized their opportunity to seek independence to protect themselves.

Things just went to shit, unfortunately.

Hispanic sphere racism is incredibly complicated. Bunch of people who are self-admittedly 1/4 something hating on people for being half or 3/4s of that same thing.

It's racial, fascination with socialism, or overpopulation. Some of these SA countries used to function. What scares me is North America is that we're not far off from suffering the same freefall of decay.

the Venezuelan people are incapable of self governance

Whether they are or not, I'm afraid there is no such thing as 'self-governance' anywhere in the world. It's oligarchy wearing democratic and republican trappings as skin-suits.

And the military-industrial complex and their financers will reap profits in the billions. So much for the three hour special military operation and just stealing their president.

Meanwhile, we condemn Putler's unprecedented, full-scale invasion of the sovereign nation of Ukraine. The rules-based international order must stand up to this aggression.

The difference seems to be that US was much more efficient and they don't care about boots on the ground conquest like Russia does.

The US hasn't achieved anything so far except kidnap Maduro and his wife. Maduro isn't comparable to Gaddafi or Saddam. He wasn't an absolute dictator. Remains to be seen what's going to happen in the near future.

That was basically my point. This was not some war like Afghanistan, the goal was different and the method was much more efficient. I'm not defending the strike in any way but it is a different operation than what Putin did.

Not yet anyway. Probably just the precursor for the next war with Iran.

Either way Ukraine and Venezuela aren't really comparable. That stunt wasn't actually more efficient as Maduro wasn't actually defended. The entire Venezuelan military stood down. Seems like he was sold out so Trump could have a publicity stunt similar to how Iran was warned in advance of the bombing of Fordow and the US was warned before Iran shot back.

It's early yet to call this efficient. I think we could easily end up with boots on the ground if things go south.

That is the strange part of it all. The population does not seem to be rioting and even if they did what would they accomplish and against what/whom? Same with the military, what will they do? Go against the current president meaning the ex-VP?

It is scary in how stupidly simple it was to do.

Well, only ever fighting cowardly wars, against people who lack any meaningful capacity to fight back, has its benefits...

Can you believe that Putler tried to capture Zelensky in the first days of the war? Absolutely unheard of.

I'm getting real tired of these sick fucks.

Also, check the thread I just posted; Paul Singer, one of Trump's major megadonors, just snagged up a bunch of Venezuelan oil infrastructure for pennies on the dollar, and is going to make insane profits.

I don't think people cheering this on have fully reckoned with the abdication of moral authority if the US goes through with this plan. You can't say that this is in the best interest of Venezuelans.

That happened in 1913.

Tom Cotton is Lindsey Graham with better PR in right-wing circles. Unfortunately, unlike Lindsey, he's also very smart.

US gonna hurt and starve all Venezuelans

They’re not white, so this won’t be happening.

Although the usual play would be to open the floodgates to Venezuelan refugees due to the "unrest"

I mean a few years ago we did this to Uganda because the media lied and said they were making homosexuality illegal. So it's not like this isn't an improvement.

The powers that be in countries rarely give a shit if the people at the bottom starve when push comes to shove.
