Zoomer Historian has a video discussing a book about this. The White British troops surveyed back in the early 2000s (if I remember right) were asked how they felt about their service in WW2. The overwhelming majority hated the current state of Britain, and wouldn't have fought against the Germans. Among the hundreds surveyed, only 3 had a positive outlook on their military service in WW2. Apparently, the bomber crews were more likely to have a positive outlook, as they didn't see or meet the Germans face to face. Of the Allied soldiers who did meet the Germans, most had a positive view of them.

I believe Italy, while it was allied, was known for treating PoWs well. With their crippling chronic backstabbing disorder throughout history, most of their PoWs were allies at one point, or would become allies in short order soon.
I don't know why we focus on WW2, time travel and eliminate Woodrow Wilson and save MORE Men and stop the commies before they begin!

Sargon had a similar comment recently. To summarize, he said that Marx's criticisms of liberalism are correct and that liberals have no answer to it, other than to handwave the criticisms away. Of course, Marx's solution of the worker's revolution is stupid and unworkable.
I've heard from someone (don't remember who) that fascism is "late stage socialism". People turn to it once they realize that socialism's economic system doesn't actually work. And I can think of a few examples of that. A lot of early socialists became fascists in Italy and Germany in the early 20th century. And China's modern system is the textbook definition of fascism, even if they still pretend to be communist.
All of that is to say that Marx (and others) correctly identify liberalism's problems. Just that socialism does not represent a workable solution.
