I can’t fathom their strategy at this point. Sales for the system are so bad that Costco removed the console from shelves. So they increased prices again. And now this? Microsoft really should just announce they’re getting out of gaming.

The thing is the more they price hike the subscription the less appealing the subscription becomes to the masses
We're talking about millions of people, that means they literally lose more money with shameless greed than letting the subscription price stayvthe same
They're milking the niche they have because they know they can't grow any larger. Lots of simulation games are like that. Eventually you will spend the same amount as an actual car to get all the trains for this game before the sequel comes out. Sims does it so often it's sort of hilarious. The entire painted miniature battle scene is like this.

this is how subscription services make their money. they advertise their service super cheap and run at a loss to build a customer base, then quietly increase the subscription price and hope a large portion of their customer base won't notice.
the loyal customers will be salty, but will keep their subscription.
the unloyal customers will unsubscribe.
the customer's not paying attention, which is the majority, will pay the increased fee.
it's basically the hidden subscription scam.

Reason enough to not buy from microsoft.
There's still shit you can use to "get around" this by trading in the lower priced stuff by buying it in bulk (from places that sell them in bulk) and then "converting" it to the higher tier. I know they nerfed it a bit but you can still do it.
But, who the fuck plays on Xbox/Microsoft Live anyway? Stick to Steam.
