At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did make the shape shifter a tranny.
The thing is, if they are a shape shifter, then they wouldn't need to be a troon, because they could literally alter their genetic structure at will. They could quite literally, trans the sexes and actually become the other one, unlike troons which are a ghastly attempt to imitate the other sex.
Marvel already did that in the last year or so and retconned Mystique from Nightcrawler's mother to his father.

I mean, a character where their entire shtick is manipulation and disguises, it makes sense to me their base form would be a bit androgynous. I know she's been consistently portrayed as attractive in the past, but given the circumstances of her role and character.. it kind of makes sense. This once. I mean ffs, she's living the dream for pretty much every tranny out there.
