I'd also like to add that media is also infested with a glut of deconstruction, subversion, and a reliance on irony as well. Sincerity is a commodity these days.
When WoW was crashing and there was a huge exodus to FF14, a multitude of streamers went with them. The sheer number of them that created extremely ugly, unattractive characters on purpose to deflect from the accusation that they liked "the weeb game" or took it seriously was depressing. One guy actually named his Lalafell (the midget race) "Ugly Baby."
Nihilism, irony, defensiveness at being demanded to explain yourself to bitter losers; these corrosive behaviors have ruined enjoyment of everything everywhere, and entire generations have been raised to make sure they don't look like they're enjoying anything too much, or else risk some harridan swooping in to demand they explain themselves.
Or is C.S Lewis right, and it's fundamentally a childishness, an arrested development. People don't grow up any more, and they are indoctrinated into a degenerate status seeking culture throughout their teen years, and with an overly strong and performative rejection of anything perceived to be childish (or, an over indulgent embrace of it and refusal to grow up). There's no happy medium where it can just be enjoyed as an adult.
This is something I'm trying very hard to achieve in my own story. It might not be the most original story in the world, but I'm trying to make it sincere and hopeful.
Right -- the mark of a good story is starting with a compelling scenario as to WHY people would be interested in the characters in that scenario, and then realistically (or fantastically -- depending on the genre) build out the characterisations based on how they're impacted by the scenario.
Good writers also know how to get out of the way of their own story and let things play out organically, for better or for worse for the characters involved.
Some of my favourite L4D2 graffiti are the ones spelled wrong because regardless of whether a zombie apocalypse is happening or not the general public is still retarded.
The worst thing about modern western culture is not only nihilism but deeply drenched in performative words and irony. It feels like everything gets filtered through that. With that kind of culture, the genuine edginess is refreshing and that's why every 4chan memes go viral, eventually shaping the reality.

A fitting name for one of the accursed popotos.
A far cry from the vastly superior race of Tarutarus.

I feel originally shouldn’t be a major goal. If you are trying to avoid tropes or cliches, then you story is still defined by them.

Every story has been told, it's said. Just write you and it will be sincere
Great message. Reminds me of the "controversy" that pops up once every few years over Warhammer, Starship Troopers, Halo and most recently Helldivers.

Zombie films have had the same message for 70 years.
L4D2 literally satirizes the obvious
sixteen years pass
OP: "Is this the jews?"
No moron, it isn't.

Zombies aren't people
