I'd also like to add that media is also infested with a glut of deconstruction, subversion, and a reliance on irony as well. Sincerity is a commodity these days.
When WoW was crashing and there was a huge exodus to FF14, a multitude of streamers went with them. The sheer number of them that created extremely ugly, unattractive characters on purpose to deflect from the accusation that they liked "the weeb game" or took it seriously was depressing. One guy actually named his Lalafell (the midget race) "Ugly Baby."
Nihilism, irony, defensiveness at being demanded to explain yourself to bitter losers; these corrosive behaviors have ruined enjoyment of everything everywhere, and entire generations have been raised to make sure they don't look like they're enjoying anything too much, or else risk some harridan swooping in to demand they explain themselves.
Or is C.S Lewis right, and it's fundamentally a childishness, an arrested development. People don't grow up any more, and they are indoctrinated into a degenerate status seeking culture throughout their teen years, and with an overly strong and performative rejection of anything perceived to be childish (or, an over indulgent embrace of it and refusal to grow up). There's no happy medium where it can just be enjoyed as an adult.

A fitting name for one of the accursed popotos.
A far cry from the vastly superior race of Tarutarus.
