I am doing a rewatch of Supernatural. Which looking back, I didn't notice how anti-Christian it was. I used to really enjoy the show but watching it now the anti-Christian shit is really overt and bugs me. Sorry that wasn't the reason I was writing, just a tangent.
There's a scene in season 8 with Sam hitting a dog with a carand he takes it to the vet. The vet who treats the dog is a woman. After paying for the surgery and waiting to see if the dog is okay, the vet asks him to take the dog. Sam says he can't and was just trying to do the right thing getting the dog help. And this bitch says, "If you were interested in doing the right thing you wouldn't have hit him with your car." Sam says he is sorry but he did the right thing taking care of the dog. And this broad responds by looking at the receptionist and saying, "Give this man his medal for doing the right thing."
I'm sorry but it's galling that a guy does the right thing, and bitchy poo is giving him shit.
Spoilers for the end of the show below.
You have been warned!
No, really.
Dude, it ends with God being the final big bad. Sure you need to survive all 17 seasons, or however many it was, but the ending has God depowered and replaced by the son of Lucifer.
What the actual shit?!
I looked it up, it's "only" 15, but I had no clue it went that far. It was already shit years before it ended, and I had no clue it went that long. I don't remember when I dipped, but I think it was somewhere in the 8-10 range. Surprised it went on years without me even knowing.
Also, doesn't surprise me in the slightest they made "God" the bad guy. He was a joke character that they did nothing but shit on since his introduction. "God" was literally a pathetic and inept loser. Surprised they didn't make his sister or whatever the replacement. Lucifer's son is still very on brand though.
Tbh I put 15 first but thought that seemed too sensible because I remember it was a stupid number regardless.
Each season after 5 basically followed the same formula of;
They're all very contained although do still occasionally have callbacks from new characters introduced as well as a few longer running themes like adding The Men of Letters to the show if simply to give the bothers a base to operate out of.
I don't think God was intended to be that character in the original 5, so while that character is very whiny it's probably because it happened before the retcon was ever thought up.
Yeah given that the brothers were the hosts for Michael and Lucifer it was long suspected that God was supposed to be the boys' dad but I'm guessing they couldnt get him to come in for filming for whatever reason and had to change course.
JDM does show up in one of the later seasons for a time-displaced Thanksgiving meal with the boys and their resurrected mother, but this was quite a bit after he had started The Walking Dead as Negan. They even reference that role in the show by having Dean carrying the barb-wired baseball bat and saying "Dad loved this thing" in one of the episode openings.
He is revealed as god at the very end of season 5.
Not technically. I can see the argument for it, but he could have just been zapped up since his prophet days were over.
I think the smarmy little grin gives it away.
During the rewatch he's definitely giving a far too confident grin for the Chuck character.
I stopped watching before the last couple of seasons. That's part of the reason I am doing a rewatch.
Sounds like you should still stop before the later seasons. :(
Yeah it does.
I think I watched 3 seasons? maybe? And got sick of the repetition & bad writing. Lazy plots, dumb characters & so forth.
17 seasons? That's worse than MASH for milking the dead horse! 😲
It's really telling how taking responsibility is attacked at every turn. You made a mistake and are actively trying to fix it? "How dare you make a mistake in the first place!?" You putting aside your own self interest to do the right thing? "Oh, so now you want a medal for basic human decency!?"
Our society takes itself for granted. People have completely forgotten that our default state is to be a selfish animal. We have to learn to be civilized, and if it's not reinforced and appreciated, people will stop bothering altogether. Delayed gratification is hard. Immediate pleasure activates monke neurons.
All the shows of that time period have feminist rot laced in.
Feminist rot has been common for decades. As proof, just look at the idiot White dad cliche of TV shows.
I remember that episode. That bitch was insufferable.
Supernatural seasons 1-5 were good bordering on great. There were a handful of legitimately great episodes in there, although they made one particularly gigantic writing mistake in the finale. Seasons 6+ vacillated between decent and god awful with the final few seasons being one of the biggest fall offs in tv history.
I never finished Supernatural, despite loving the earlier seasons. I just couldn't.
I absorbed the last few seasons via YouTube summaries and highlights. It got so unbelievably bad.
supernatural only had 5 seasons. stop watching tumblr fanficiton!
You just have one? Lucky!
But, more seriously, that's interesting. I should rewatch it. I know it got really bad later, but it would be interesting to see the earlier stuff again. But, yeah, the later seasons all but literally cucked God, and it was pretty disgusting. I get it's a different, fictional universe, but they were still clearly making a point.
There's your problem, bub. That was already well into Current Year, sadly.
They had the meta episode with Sam and Dean being put into the real word taking the place of the actors, and in that one they made it a plot point no God existed in the real world.
To the show’s credit, they did appear to suggest that a world without god was a bad thing.
I really liked the first few seasons, but it kept getting funny instead of scary. Tumblr took over too much. The Scoobynatiral episode is still funny though.
They did a much better job balancing the tone in earlier seasons. The humor worked, the earnestness worked, the horror worked. I think they just lost touch as the show went on, most likely as the writing room was flooded with incompetent fans. Also, the show was very much influenced by the very worst elements of its terrible fanbase.
Yeah, the shippers got too much. Eric Kripke had five seasons as his plan, so that's about where I recommend anyone stop.
The show is NPC slop from the 2000s. So black characters ham fisted, anti racist good guys, and feminism and girl bossing were super in vogue.
This is why our culture is anti-Christian. Decades and decades of propaganda. Some of it overt. Some of it less so. Millions and millions of people watching the same TV shows, the same movies, playing the same games. Perhaps it's possible for a mature adult like yourself who is firm in the faith to notice and reject, but what about the children? What about young adults? Now I wonder why so many young people eventual end up rejecting the faith?
This is why I think that everyone should be very very conscious and cautious about the media they consume. It's designed to get into your head, to manipulate you. It's actually very hard to avoid that. Think of this scenario. A flyer arrives in the mail advertising some crap you don't think you need. But what the heck, I'll have a quick look through it. Then, oh look - that's interesting, maybe I could do with that? Not every item, not every flyer, but it does happen. The advertising works, that's why they do it. And you can't effectively avoid this by telling yourself "I'll look at the flyer but I'm not going to buy anything". The solution that does work is throwing the flyer in the trash before looking at it.
Think about how that applies to the other media people consume.
Yes it was true for me. I consumed so much media without thinking about the effects on myself or the macro effect on my family and community. Just mindless consumption at a near obsessive level.
