The video itself is pretty cringe, but how the fuck was it allowed to be played in court? Sure, the victim impact isn't part of the evidence at trial, but it's supposed to be considered in sentencing and it becomes part of the trial record.
No one knows if he would have forgiven his murderer, because he's fucking dead. It's nothing more than supposition given a false veneer of authenticity with a computer simulation.
Nah, some people really think they ought to forgive no matter what. Some of them even cheer for their own oppression, especially if they're white leftists. But other times it's like you say.
His sister may have had the right intentions if she knew he genuinely was the kind of person who believed in forgiving unrepentant killers (maybe this one was even a little repentant and maybe he was only trying to maim, not kill). But the fact this was played in court and the judge said he "felt" it was "genuine" is complete idiocracy if not an evil excuse to let the killer off lightly.
Welcome to nuJustice, where no length is too far to go in order to absolve the black of his crimes -- er, I mean, white people's racism applied on him.
I know of only one case where someone was mortally wounded, and basically testified at their own murder trail via video recording (since the doctors basically said due to the fact that she had been set on fire, the likelihood of survival was basically less than 50%), and she didn't offer forgiveness.

The same way people put animals on trial in medieval times.
