"Democracy" is whoever can manipulate the most people into doing what they want. The people in power don't want competition. You can't vote yourself out of that one.
Democracy is a puppet show with a guy standing behind the curtains controlling all puppets. If one puppet threatens to cut its string it'll get removed from the stage. But it might also be just part of the show. Democracy is an illusion. The greatest system to control the people without them realizing what's going on.
