I've been hearing a lot of whining from conservatives in Canada about how Trump poison-pilled the election and I have no patience for it. It was the self-righteous, self-defeating self-indulgence of the Canadian voter base that did this to us, that and some WEF/Chinese election rigging.
From what I've heard about the CPC, they're as bad as the Tories in the UK, so if Trump fucked them over, lowercase-C conservatives in Canada should be thanking him, because this kind of election blowout may force them to finally correct course and stop sucking globohomo dick. If they won, they'd just rule as Libs 2.0. Now that they lost, it may prompt them to do some introspection.
The other good thing is that it's a very temporary high-water mark for Liberals based on unfounded optimism about a new puppet they put in, who is clearly different from the previous puppet. When he fails to accomplish anything, as he inevitably will, he'll sink to even greater depths than Trudeau, who at least had his mestizo Latin good looks to fall back on.
The only risk I see is that with Poilivere defeated and discredited, the Conservatives will become a second liberal party with the likes of that toad O'Toole. Then it will not even matter if the liberals lose, because stupid wins either way.
But of course, I know as little about Canadian politics as North Americans know about European politics, and I may be as far off here as they are about us.
I fear that it may simply be enough that Carney can survive by campaigning against the Trump boogeyman for another 3.5 years to ride out both their terms.
