Wendy's Declines to Apologize for Mocking Katy Perry's Blue Origin Space Flight
The popular fast-food chain Wendy's declined to apologize for mocking Katy Perry's Blue Origin space flight, but offered the pop star what appeared to be sardonic acclaim, praising the "Teenage Dream" singer for her "out-of-this-world-talent."
It's funny but it's also an indication that corporate accounts shouldn't be posting on X.
Wendy's is the exception to the rule though. They have been shitposting legends on twitter for years.
Wendy's social media brand is literally talking shit across the internet
Wendy's was basically the origin of corporate accounts trolling and mocking people on social. They might not have been the very first, but they were the first to go viral for doing it.
Literally everyone you see doing it now is doing so because Wendy's got hugely popular support and free marketing for doing it like a decade ago.
Yeah, pretty much my take as well. I'm not sure that's the kind of joke everyone (within reason) can laugh at. Humor is always appreciated, but even a small bit of poking fun at someone else's expense can turn ugly, and that is something an official corporate account should not be dealing with; it's bad enough seeing what happens with individuals.
Wendy's have made it part of their brand though. You can find compilations of them trolling people all over social media. If they'd just done this out of the blue it would be more of a risk, but if your company already has an established track record of being shitposters on X, people are less likely to take it seriously and get offended, unless they're the perpetually-outraged type anyway. And those people are troll-bait: the internet already hates them.
What the fuck are you talking about. Shit was funny.
