This is refreshing to see, to say the least. There's a part of me that's glad that this is going to tick off so many people, but most of me is depressed that this is going to tick off so many people. This shouldn't be a contentious thing to say in the United States of America!
Honestly, sometimes its good to just let a good thing exist and be happy for a moment about it rather than constantly drag it down with reality and bitterness at the state of things.
Oh, yeah? What do you think would be a reasonable alternative to Trump? Maybe Paul Ryan, or Mitt Romney, or Jeb Bush? Look, Trump isn’t perfect. He’s more pro-Israel than I’d like. But he’s also clearly more pro-Christian and pro-America than any alternative, and (not withstanding whoever your fantasy candidate for The Day Everyone Spontaneously Wakes Up may be), the only decent candidate that can actually win and move things in any sort of positive direction. You can keep sitting there being a grump loser applying unrealistic purity tests to avoid accepting any sort of incremental progress, but I’d like to actually accomplish things.
It’s great to see these more pro-Catholic posts continue into his presidency. We had the Michaelmas post, a few others, and now Palm Sunday. Not just Christmas and Easter. Does he have some Catholic or Catholic-adjacent or orthobro advisor or something?
Isn't Melania a Catholic (at least to some degree)? Also, JD Vance is a somewhat recent convert. They had a big Catholic gala at Mar-a-Lago recently too with some very traditional leaning speakers and even Benediction. So there are connections there.
In one of the parables of Christ about the second coming he said that heaven was like a feast for a wedding. Those invited refused to the point of killing the messengers. Then the king sent his servants into the streets to find those who would come. Both good and bad came, and he kicked out anyone who tried to thumb their noses at him.
It's weird how often I see this today. Trump probably wasn't that religious even a few years ago, but he's pushing an idea because it's popular. Some have said this is just self aggrandizing, but it fulfills the parable very well. For whatever reason, he is coming to the feast when many who would be obvious are not.
Not a bad thing. I'm not religious but I take zero offense at seeing Christianity being pushed back to the forefront. If you take offense at someone saying "God bless the United States of America" that's a YOU problem.
Let's be honest, A LOT OF THE WEST needs to re embrace old school Christianity, the type that reclaimed the holy land.
