Whether you like Trump or not, I think anyone who's been paying attention for the last 8 years understands that no matter what he does the press will rip him apart. If you can't possibly earn any points with these people, what incentive would you have to court their favor?

As 47 not even right-leaning centrists still trust anything the media says anymore so they can't manufacture opinion. All they can do is rile up the radical left, which is not very or even countereffective.
They shot themselves in the foot claiming 100% of things Trump did for 8 years was bad. Now he could shoot and kill someone and if CNN covered it, no one would believe it.
They were hoping for '16 Trump. They are fucking terrified that the new Administration is taking the country in a new direction as promised. They fuggin wish Trump was "selling the country to oligarchs" (lol, who owns it now?). I have no idea if the Trump Admin will succeed in realigning global trade, if MAHA will work, or if getting Europe off our teet will improve the world, but it sure as hell looks like we are done with the era "we've tried nothing and all out of ideas." This is a bad thing for a lot of people, many of them wealthy Americans, and its pissing off "liberals" and "conservatives" alike.
Literally every hit piece that have is either such a laughably bad try that his supporters meme it back on them immediately (TWO SCOOPS!) or something that just makes him seem more powerful and based than he really is to anyone but their own side.
"He's going to do what he promised to do on the campaign trail!" has to be the worst attack ad/hit piece ever. It's an endorsement! OF COURSE literally everyone who voted for him, did so because of his promises on the campaign trail! If they didn't like his promises, they wouldn't have voted for him!
