However, the executive producers recently confirmed at the Max's London showcase that they will keep the ages canon from the books, unlike the eight films.
This is the only relevant information in this entire article. The grown man bit was just dressing to get you to click on the article itself and possibly shoehorn in "JKR hates trannies" for some brownie points. Its the most pure form of clickbait, where its relevant for the first few sentences (which are filled with extra words for padding) and then completely irrelevant until the last line joke.
Otherwise everything else is them sperging about fucking ages for the adult characters like that's some massively important note that must be respected canonically. Its one thing for kids, whose physical changes happen fast and are often relevant, but fucking horror a 30 something played his 21 year old parent.
Had a role for years as a kid, and now there's a sequel series coming where the character is an adult, and you're now old enough to play her this way too?
FUCK YOU, Michaela Jill Murphy (formerly Jessie Flower)! You're not Toph anymore! A blind character MUST be played by a BLIND ACTRESS, and preferably an Asian one since the character is clearly Chinese-coded! Dionne Quan, you're in!
...Seriously, they're doing that. The actor must share the same disability. In VOICEOVER.
Dionne Quan is a good actress, but come on, even Crunchyroll brought back Chuck Huber to voice Android 17 in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, and he's very openly pro-Trump! How the fuck are you worse than Crunchyroll?!
I met and talked to Murphy at a con a couple of years back. The woman knows her shit. She got screwed.
The entire thing is extra hilarious to me because basically 95% of all male characters under the age of 18 are played by women, in aggressively noticeable women voices. So clearly they only care sometimes.
Its one of the reasons why I cannot stand DB Kai. Because Gohan went from sounding like a regular young boy to a screaming harpy. And if I wanted that I'd watch the Japanese version with Grandma.
Sure. But is profit the only reason? What are they trying to do differently than the original movies, other than more closely follow the character ages while horribly miscasting the actors? Was there a particular thing that was done so badly that it justified retelling the exact same story for 95% of the runtime?
If this was a spin-off, then I'd understand. If they were making a series based on "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality", I'd definitely support it. But they seem to only be redoing what has already been done in an unnecessary reboot.
Game of thrones generated 2.2 billion in net profit for WB/HBO over 8 seasons. Harry Potter has a much larger captive audience and this would likely be at least 3x the revenue for them over 7 seasons. It’s entirely about the money.
But everyone already knows the story. There's no mystery, there's no surprise. All the charm is already gone, because everything they'll show has already been done, and likely done better.
Is this actually going to turn up a profit? I think that this will only make people appreciate the books and movies more. This will likely just turn into another failed reboot, barely worth the salaries of the actors, the price of production, and the costs of advertisement.
The movies left a lot out from the books, especially the 4th after. I’m betting it turns a massive profit, you forget the main viewership is teenage to middle aged women, there’s no way it doesn’t generate more revenue.
From the sounds of it, profit can only be the reason short of some background contract fuckery.
The original movie came out 23 years ago, we've had remakes with shorter spans in between. So its not ridiculous to think they'd want another "guaranteed money" 10 year franchise plan.
Because everything gets a reboot or sequel or midquel or prequel. :V
Because they can't make new shit, because they're all talentless diversity hires. They can only take something their betters made and then but some blacks and gays in there.
Terfs like JKR tend to fascinate me, it’s like an open study on what went wrong with society. She would allow Britain to be fully genocided per her own political views but has a tantrum about men in dresses as everything around her is burning down. It’s how I came to the realization that feminism would rather end the human race than be inconvenienced.
She is a rabid man hater, but afaik her "tantrum" was the simple statement that transwomen aren't women. In non-clown world that shouldn't be controversial.
Why? Her brand of feminism is pretty simple. Woman good, men bad. Specifically women have a magical quality in their womanhood or femininity that makes them worthy of elevation for being born women.
So to them, trannies are literally just men (the bads and evils) trying to steal, mimic, and mock their magical womanhood by emulating it. And worse yet, using it to trick and hurt women. JKR specifically didn't care about trannies until they started pushing into bathrooms and sports (aka it finally hurt women directly).
Like, Feminists turning into TERFs is the most logically consistent thing they've ever done and its far more fascinating how the libfems (or whatever they are called now) work the two conflicting viewpoints in their mind.
I was not planning on even touching the reboot, but if they cast a 42 year old man to play as a little girl I have to say I'd be pressed to reassess my decision. Not gonna lie.

It gets worse in voiceover.

(EDIT: Her middle name is Jill, not Lee. Fixed.)
Weird. Wasn't middle-aged Toph played by Kate Higgins?
For that flashback scene in Korra? Yes she was. I forgot about that scene.
But TOO BAD, Katie-baby, you're not blind! NEXT!
I'm just more surprised that Michaela wasn't reprising the middle-aged Toph flashbacks.
She quit acting in 2009. Her last role at that point was as Toph in some ATLA video game.
She only returned to acting a couple of years ago.

Why the hell are they rebooting this trash?
Because it's a ridiculously profitable goldmine that they haven't collapsed yet, even with the core audience screeching at its creator's heresy.
Have you been watching Warner's productions? Literally failure after failure after failure of the most catastrophic level.
Except for Harry Potter, specifically Hogwarts Legacy, which continues to make gangbusters even after being cancelled.
Literally the smartest move they have made in years is choosing to reboot it, given how low they dropped their bar.

Hogwarts Legacy made a billion dollars.
To "fix" it and make it not a white British thing anymore.

This level of bigotry is not acceptable in current year. I would be shaking right now but I don't want to appropriate the Parkinson community.
how transphobic!
We all know why they really want to cast children for the roles, and it's decidedly not because they want to stay accurate to the books.
He had to have been trying to fuck with JKR.

I bet most of the libfems don't have kids or do sports. They work HR, etc. and so aren't inconvenienced by a mentally ill man playing dress up.
All ideologies that derive from the devil are self destructive. By their fruits shall you know them.
You make so many assumptions, it's clear you're someone that never bothered to read the materials they told you not to look at.
