It's funny as this seems to be happening ALL across Europe. Establishment, desperate to keep the right out, try to form packs with left wing parties to have the numbers to deny the right power.
They infighting, turn on each other, the government fails and the right look EVEN BETTER because you fucked up so publicly in your efforts.
The one during the French Revolution is considered the first. The second one was in the brief interlude between the end of the Orleanist dynasty in 1848 and Louis Napoleon putting it out of its misery. The third republic resulted from Louis Napoleon being captured in 1870.
That lasted until World War II, and then you got the Fourth Republic until De Gaulle had the constitution rewritten to allow for the executive aggrandizement that he liked - which is why French presidents today are petty tyrants.
Fourt.... Fifth? I think this is the 6th republic?
The Third Republic fell with the invasion of France. Vichy France isn't considered a Republic. Then DeGaul was the Fourth Republic. Then there was a coup... I think it failed, but I can't remember if that was then the 5th Republic afterwards?
Just in the interest of nailing it down for posterity and future knowledge, looking it up it is:
1st Republic (aka: Revolutionary France): 1792-1804, Starts with the overthrow of King Louis XVI, ends with the defeat of Napoleon and the forced reintroduction of the Bourbon monarchy.
2nd Republic: 1848-1852, starts with the overthrow of the Bourbon monarchy, and ends with Napoleon III taking power and forming the 2nd French Empire.
3rd Republic: 1870-1940, starts with the collapse of the 2nd French Empire in the Franco-Prussian War, ends with the Nazi invasion and occupation of France.
4th Republic: 1946-1958, starts from the continuation of the French Provisional Government (established in the aftermath of Frances liberation in WW2), was dissolved by a popular referendum and the passage of a new constitution (that mostly empowered the President) after being marked by extreme instability for the duration of its existence (there were 21 different administrations in 12 years).
5th Republic: 1958-Present, starts with the popular referendum of a new constitution, ends with Macron being a power mad tyrant in hock to the Globalist order.
Do note that the Paris Commune took place during the collapse of the 2nd French Empire. The Communists have been re-living that moment ever since. CHAZ is literally a less violent version of Paris in 1870
While true, the Paris Commune was also an anomaly that only controlled...well, Paris. Meanwhile, the government that would become the 3rd Republic controlled the rest of the country, and were the ones actually negotiating with the Prussians after Napoleon III was captured at Verdun and forced to abdicate. And they were the ones that got put into power after Paris was brought to heel with help from the Prussians, and ruled until Nazi occupation.
I am definitely not denying that the Communist pine for the Commune, but ironically it is a fairly large scale case model that shows just how unpopular their ideals actually are to real people, even at a time when they were at their strongest in terms of power.
To be honest, it wasn't much different from the French Revolution. Most of the Revolution was centered in Paris. The rest of France, particularly the peasant and rural areas of France wanted a Bourbon Restoration. Paris has always been weird, it's not really the rest of France at all, but it thinks it's almost the total encapsulation of France, while being totally disconnected from it.
...might need to make some 'sixth Republic' merch now, get ahead of the curve as I bet THAT will happen before the French establishment lets the populists take power.
Well... they were asking for it. It's one thing to push through a budget without a vote when the lawmakers are on your side (which, believe it or not, the Gaullist constitution of France allows), but it's quite another when they can throw you out.
There were some people here who were upset that the FN didn't get a majority due to the other parties conspiring. It seems to have worked out well, allowing them to infight more and exhaust themselves before the next presidential and parliamentary election.
BTW, they're trying to ban Le Pen from politics, because they're democratic.

I mean, nothing stops them from pulling the same shit the next time around. They can always cheat if the FN comes within striking distance of an absolute majority. Maybe Macron will learn not to trust commies after this, but I wouldn't bet on it considering how much he hates the Right. He'd rather self immolate than allow Le Pen to become prime minister.
Macron is there for a couple more years but he's not eligible as a candidate for the next presidential election. Dosen't mean he leaves politics though.
French presidential mandates last 5 years, and someone cannot do more than 2 consecutive mandates... but there is no limits on non-consecutive mandates.
It wouldn't surprise me if he pulls a Putin/Erdogan to wait out the required break, but I'm mainly talking about him teaming up with the commies to rig the parliamentary elections, and he's allowed to call another one this summer if he wants to (the parliament has to sit for a year before it can be dissolved). It's not like a new (non-FN) president would behave any differently anyway. Dirty tricks to lock the Right out of power are very much the norm in European politics.
tl;dr: Macaroni's prime minister lost a vote of confidence and now the government is toast.
Macaroni's strategic alliance with the far-left during the last election to defeat the right backfired spectacularly. The left backstabbed him and the right resents him.
Yup, Macron did this to himself. Commies can't be trusted to keep their word, and any doubts the Right may have had about Macron being a weasel are gone. Le Pen should let him stew in the mess he made. He wanted to be butt buddies with back stabbing commies, and it's time to force him to live with the results of that decision.
another thing he lost by calling these early elections... is the ability to threaten the parliament to call an early parliamentary election.
parliamentary elections can only be called once a year.
so now he can't threaten them into not kicking out his prime minister. and what do you know, on the first opportunity they got, they voted the government out.
This is just the bill coming due for the Faustian bargain Macron made with the Left to cheat the Right out of the parliamentary elections over the summer. It was obvious to everyone that the Left would stab him in the back, and he richly deserves it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, parliamentary systems are fucking retarded. Somehow even more dysfunctional than the system we have here.
They can't even actually have another legislative election for half a year, honk honk. They have the exact same blocs they did a week ago. Beyond absurdity. France is as always the front runners of clown world.
Yes. There were parliamentary elections over the summer, and Macron colluded with the commies to lock the Right out of power. It resulted in a 3 way split between the commies, the Right, and Macron's "centrists", so 2 out of the 3 blocs needed to at least acquiesce to keep the government in power. Since commies never keep their word, Macron's party didn't have the numbers to survive a no confidence vote when the commies inevitably backstabbed him.
Widely unpopular tax hikes and spending cuts or limits to reduce the deficit to 5% of the total budget...
partly as the state spent big to cushion the economy from the Covid-19 pandemic
from the government lockdowns, not the cold.
And the consequences of the energy crisis due to their negligence of making themselves dependant on Russian energy.
Edit : Let's not forget the billions of Euros wasted on invaders' welfare.
When Trump warned them about their energy dependance to Russia, the EU leaders laughed at him.
Globalists don't understand, or aren't affected much by, the consequences of loss of independance and homogeneity. It's the general public who has to suffer nearly all of the consequences.
Which republic are we on now?

It would be entertaining to watch the French military to just start handing out battle axes.
Anyone else thinking about the song Hallelujah while reading this?

Between this and Germany Europe seems to be falling apart.
Germany is falling upwards towards an AfD controlled government, slowly but surely.
Nothing a few additional hundreds political imprisonments can't stop.
Is this related to playing keepaway from French right wing populists like the German collapse was, or something different?
Yes. There were parliamentary elections over the summer, and Macron colluded with the commies to lock the Right out of power. On top of that: France is broke.
The EU's three biggest economies (Germany, France and Italy) are broke. Fun times.
Collapsing seems a bit of a stretch if all they did was sack the Prime Minister.
That also means the government under the PM has to resign.
So akin to an abrupt change of administration here in the states. I guess that would be a bit turbulent then.
Why?

I love the fact that he just got done talking to Trump. That was probably to actually increase his stability.
Europe in general should stop pretending they're real countries and accept their role as glorified museums for Chinese tourists.
Instead of "citizens", all Europeans shall be called "reenactors" henceforth.
I'd prefer that over being a paypig for muslim invaders.
