It's extremely unpopular all around but still totally true that there's a difference and you deserve different benefits for what you did.
If you're a combat veteran who sacrificed life and limb for your service, you deserve this 30+ years of gibs. You ruined yourself for them, the least they can do is pay you.
People who joined up to be pogs and women especially don't deserve the same bennys. I'm sorry but being a desk jockey, never deploying, or working safely in a green zone isn't the same as being a guy in the shit, even if the service is appreciated and necessary to keep it all running.
I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, he was a McDonald-Douglas retiree who could afford all of his groceries, bills, medications, and even trips to places like Dubai to see airshows (his hat).
This old man probably could have afforded to move almost anywhere outside of St Louis. But he didn't.
Never underestimate the power of nostalgia. The man was probably living in the 1950s, writing off all the violence as rare one-offs. Why, he used to leave his bike unlocked when he went into the grocery store to buy cigarettes with his weekly salary of a nickel! How could Saint Louis be a bad place if he has so many fond memories of it!
Every old person gets like this eventually. The past consumes them.

It is the Astana Zoo massacre all over again!
Damn dude was drawing retirement since 1992. 32 years of fucking gibs lol. Black guy was probably jealous.
A well deserved benefit for someone who put their life on the line for our country.
He served 5 years in the 50s in the air force. Not sure if he saw any action in Korea.
It's still commendable but it's not like he was a lifer.
Then he went and worked for the MIC for decades.
You can serve for a much shorter term of service and still end up a lifer.

One of those random drive-by shootings where a nonagenarian gets shot 3 times with stray bullets.
We know the description of his killer.
I'd bet it wasn't a squirrel, but no way I'm putting money on it not being a coon.
