If the government wont defend you when someone offers you violence, and you can't or won't defend your property with guns, this is what happens. You could fix this today, you just need the fucking balls to meet force with force. Americans have largely been insulated from this sort of thing for a long time, but thanks to government policy of unfettered, essentially unrestricted immigration from 3rd world nations since the 1960s, it is coming back.
They've been saying this for months, and every time the Left has basically said that the crime is being caused by the Landlords, because they are evil landlords. They say that the evil landlords won't send people to repair the place, nor will they send added security. The reason for this is because both repairmen and security have been threatened with murder by the gang members, and the police will take forever to respond and do nothing about it.
The government of Aurora is explicitly in support of the migrant gangs. They aren't "doing nothing", they are taking kick-backs from the gangs to keep the cops out.
They might not be taking any money for it, leftists will do things like that out of pure spite.

Gonna be honest, I don't think most of the people in a town like Aurora have guns. And any guys with said guns who tried to roll in and save them would likely be attacked by those people if they tried.

It's not that there aren't Americans who would be willing to use force, it's that they know that A) the government will use overwhelming force against them if they do. Not one officer to deal with the gangs themselves, but they'll send a SWAT team to take you out if you deal with them yourself. And B) the extreme majority of the Right will immediately cast you out and call you a glowie fedop false flag in order to puff their chests about how much more principled and noble we are. Anyone on the Right who actually goes through and does any of the shit they bloviate about over on PDW every day will be called a villain by that same crowd 5 seconds after they do it. "The guy who shot up those Aurora gangs lived in the same dorm back in college as a guy who was later neighbors with someone who had a brother in law who worked for the FBI. False flag to make Trump supporters look violent confirmed".
If those two things weren't true, you'd have 100 men with rifles there tomorrow morning to take out the trash. There's plenty of vets on the right who aren't strangers to combat. But those two things are true, so we get nothing.

I was thinking about squatters the other day. And it occurred to me the law will let them takeover houses from normal folks, but cops can raze homeless camps in parks and government buildings. You'd think if squatters rights were a real thing we'd have people in monuments and shit.

Completely insane. What the fuck are the cops there actually doing? How do you see this shit and just say"nope not doing anything about it" when your actual paid job is cleaning up the trash? There are people that would do it for free if they got a pass on being harassed by the law for actually solving problems.
A major reason, besides a ton of cops just being utter garbage in general, is a problem that faces us in many different areas with many facets, but it's ultimately the same problem. And that is the problem of diffused benefits combined with focused risk/cost. If one chooses to do something risky and it goes well, any benefit will be spread among so many people that the one doing the action doesn't see any noticable gain at all. But the cost of doing that thing, and the negative consequences if it fails, are in turn not spread out at all and are in fact hyper focused on the individual.
It's like a reverse lottery. Pay a million dollars to buy a ticket. If it's a loser, you lose that million as well as another ten million. If you win though, you only get ten bucks. No one would play that, and we see no one playing that in real life. You burn your entire life to the ground to take one swipe at the enemy, knowing that even if you succeed you're only dealing one minor wound to the power structure, while you'll be utterly destroyed. You know it'll take thousands of people like you dealing minor wounds to make any difference, but you know that the likelihood of enough people joining you is functionally zero, so you'll be destroyed for nothing. The cost of action to you is extreme, the gain to you if you win is almost nothing, and you'll never have enough people joining you for it to even matter in general in the long run. You'll be burning your life for nothing. And each person is making that calculation separately for themselves and arriving at the same conclusion, but the net result is no one doing anything.
There's an old truism that used to be tossed around on the old gun forums like The High Road. "Think it's time for a revolution? Grab your rifle and run out into the street. If you're the only one there, it's not time yet".
I'd add that the second you do it, you'll be gunned down by cops, which is why no one does it, which is why everyone always thinks it's never time, even if it is. No one wants to be the first one killed in the revolution. And no one especially wants to be the first one killed in a revolution that didn't happen, which would just make you some guy who got killed and everyone forgets about.
Because they all know that even if they were inclined to not be a coward, they would be sold down the river by the politicians above them for daring to do anything and bringing negative attention to it.
Like a lot of things right now, we can only "win" if everyone stands up. Singular people popping up just get swatted down with nothing gained or accomplished beyond destroying their family and life.
