They don't know what funny means so they try to copy the structure and shape, when what they should take from The Office is that talent can turn even the most boring uninteresting setting into comedy.
The writers and a few of the actors on The Office could make like dentistry or say entomology funny. It had nothing to do with being in an office.

Pretty much, the fact that they couldn't come up with their own characters for the format shows how devoid of talent they much be at every level.
