I was in the mood for something with a halloween vibe, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. By "classic", I mean stuff like the Universal or Hammer monster movies, or later movies in the same vein. I have seen the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the first Hammer Dracula and enjoyed them so any other recommendations are welcomed.

He might have to find a physical copy if it's not streaming. He's practicing the six Ps
Six Ps?
Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance
It's like when stores hang up Christmas deco in November.
I'll go a little outside the box and suggest Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. You'll get the eponymous Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolfman all in the same movie.
Young Frankenstein is great as well. I need to watch the Abbott and Costello ones. Recently binged their show
Then double feature that with The Time of Their Lives. Not a horror, but it does have ghosts.
Sounds good
It is. It's not quite as slapsticky as their other flicks, A&C aren't partnered up, and it tells a lovely story of the sort that Hollywood wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole anymore for several reasons.
Have you seen "Hold That Ghost?" It's my favorite A&C film.
No. I’ll check it out
Not quite "classic" classics but Theatre of Blood and Dr Phibes are two of my favourites.
Dang it! Saw this thread, came here to mention “Theatre of Blood”, only to find I’ve been beaten to the punch! I like “Dr. Phibes” too, but not quite as much.
So instead I’ll say “The Raven” (1963) with Price, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre, is a lot of fun.
The Void isn't a classic style, but it's definitely a favorite. People are in a hospital thats closing down when a cult appears around it and people start turning into monsters.
In the Mouth of Madness. A private eye goes looking for a missing horror writer and discovers the truth behind the books.
Captain Kronos. A swashbuckling vampire hunter with a samurai sword.
Van Helsing starring Hugh Jackman. A monster hunter goes after Universal Horror monsters. Awesome happens.
Scooby Doo Kiss. It's basically a giant Kiss music video starring Scooby Doo.
Doctor Who has a few good horror flicks. The first took on Dracula and Frankensteins monster. The fourth took on a planet sized vampire, and referenced Hammer Horror a lot. He also has Gang Rock. Doctor 7 was at his best in horror episodes. The Silence in the Library for 10. So many for 11. 12 had a Dam good show.
More:
Alex Proyas made two of the best Goth films of the 90's. The Crow and Dark City. Either one is great with imagery and moments, which are repeated in films even today.
Akira: this is a comic first and then directed by the same creator for the film. A masterpiece of horror that has influenced film for decades. I finished the comic this year and loved it.
The original Phantom of the Opera has a soundtrack that I've seen once. It's really good, but I have no idea how to acquire it.
Color out of space is a great Nicolas Cage horror flick. I can't believe that's a genre, but it is. The most Nicolas Cage is Wickerman, while the best action one is Ghost Rider 1 and 2.
First three seasons of Supernatural. It gets dumb after that.
The Mummy series with Brendan Fraser. Nuff said. Same with Indiana Jones.
If you're watching Proyas you might as well watch AI and Blade Runner. It's creepy and weird.
The Thin Man Series makes fun of Film Noir before Film Noir even became a thing. It's dark and gritty and then makes you laugh. It's about a retired and now rich private eye who solves crimes because his wife is bored.
I'll talk about Scooby Doo in a different comment.
The original version of The Mummy is genuinely entertaining.
I personally love Frankenstein.
So why don't you marry him?
Ms Frankenstein sure lol. I should’ve said no homo
At Frankenstein's wedding he throws the bouquet, while the flower girl holds it.
Dracula is always good, I have always loved vampires as monsters and be it with Legosi or later with Lee. Son of Dracula was also pretty good.
If you want a fun series, Christopher Lee did 4 Dracula films not just the 1958 Dracula. He also did the 1970 Spanish version and the 1972 Dracula and son which is a French comedy. The creeping unknown or quarter mass series was the original British horror hammer did before Frankenstein and Dracula.
I enjoyed Hamer's "Lust for a Vampire" (with Yutte Stensgaard), even if it is rather corny...
And a few of those other late 60s/early 70s Hamer Dracula sequels are pretty decent.
There's also "Doctor Jekyll and Sister Hyde" if you want an, umm... Different take on that story.
"The Reptile" from 1966 is also kind of iconic..? Not necessarily sure if it "good", though.
For a slightly more classic aesthetic, "Nosferatu" the original silent film, and Fritz Lang's "M" from 1931 are both really, really creepy...
Plan 9 From Outer Space
You might be joking but I love this movie for the campy, desperate flaws it has. It's the Godfather of "so bad it's good" and great for just having something on the screen to fall asleep to.
It's entertaining for a lot of reasons lol
It gets a lot of flak but Benicio Del Toro's The Wolfman is pretty good.
Nosferatu the Vampyre
Does it have Christopher Lee Boris Karloff or Vincent Price then you're good
Tubi has a lot of classics, but they're dubbed into Spanish. Not a problem for me, but my wife and kids will need to a really fast translator.
Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman is basically a love letter to the Universal monsters. I love it.
I wish we had more.
You have to be in the right mood, it has minimal music which means more than most people realize when movie watching, but White Zombie is okay. If you want a similar idea but more modern and edgier you could go for The Serpent and the Rainbow. Both are about Zombies as perceived in Voodoo culture rather than as flesh eating ghouls.
Arsenic and Old Lace is superb. Mostly a comedy but takes a sudden turn into suspense briefly but effectively before the final act goes back to comedy.
It's a thriller not a horror, but The Night Of The Hunter was a genuinely scary movie at the time and still holds up today if you give it a chance.
Schindler's List. Has the added bonus of being a true story.
