It isn't just because they suck at games. Its because hard games like Souls games require people to learn pattern recognizing skills and the kryptonite for leftists is people being able to catch on to leftist bullshit , with their pattern recognizing skills.

I'd also add the overall agenda to degrade and denigrate the industry as a whole in order to establish control of a medium that continues to mock them.
I think this is the greater point, they want game developers to have as little control over the final product as possible while giving all power to the publishers who they know will make everything as uninspired and homogenized as possible and are also way more receptive to filling their games with globohomo shit.
They don't need to subvert devs if they convert the devs. All the devs I know are true believers.
They'll never allow a game like early WoW again, which proved soundly that they actually suck at competing with real people outside of their gated communities, where their money can't buy them success.
You're overthinking it. They're just lazy fucks who hate the medium and do the bare minimum to get paid. Their ideal game has a push to win button. It takes them 10 minutes to beat the game because they're retarded, they can spend 20 minutes shitting out an article about how racist and sexist the game is, then they can spend the remaining 39.5 hours of their workweek on their true passion: Spanking it to tranny porn.
You give these journalists way too much credit.
Or, they were just too terrible at their job that nobody else wanted to take them, so they were forced to stay on at games sites.
Gaming journalism has always been a gateway to shitlording over enthusiasts. It's a job where you get to play games early and write goofy articles like "we played Elden Ring 2 already and here's what we'd change" while the average Reddit goon is clinging to every word. The whole gaming journalism industry thrives on an inference of insider-elite status, and the type of people who chase that are more interested in being influencers than gamers.
I would suggest the games journalists hate games in general because they really wanted to write about politics but instead the market is inundated with gender studies graduates and games writing is the only gig they can get.
They didn't like games to begin with. It's just their organizations hire from the pool of useless activists because of their identities, then they get their friends hired. They would rather be writing commie manifestos in fair trade coffee shops and policing social media, than anything to do with video games. It's just the white collar job they were able to land.
On one hand fuck journalists and they are utterly fucking retarded, on the other hand fuck all the input-reading and spammy bullshit direction the series has been going.
There is no such thing as a games journalist.
Since games are a vehicle for spreading The Message, anything that makes marginally difficult to get the whole dosage shoved into your face is evil.
Remember, a game they have to put 60+ hours in and write an extensive article about isn't likely to pay more than an article about a 30 minute walking simulator. The other points people have brought up here are probably valid, but above all I think it's just cynical hacks who don't have a passion for games and believe they've hit a dead end in their careers see the act of playing games as work, and resent that the amount of work they're expected to put in is orders of magnitude greater than those who review movies or TV shows.
If souls games ans their input lag is your bar of difficulty, you need to play competitive multi-player and games like DOOM eternal on max difficulty.
Souls games are a meme, cut down console garbage running at shit framerate
The input buffer is there to punish retards who spam buttons. That's what its always done.
Way to out yourself as a shitter while trying to flex about your hardcore credentials.
Are they the ultimate fancy quick time event? Is that why I can't enjoy them?
No. The person you’re responding to is a retard.
So they're garbage for some other reason? Lol
Souls games are only hard if you lack any form of patience and your ADHD brain needs spam dopamine hits to focus. Every single one of them is a completely normal level of difficulty if you play defensively and patiently. Sans maybe Sekiro, but that rarely even gets counted as one.
Which is why games journos and most people do think they are hard. Because they are impatient retards spamming the attack button, which then means the input buffering kicks their ass and starts the cycle of them spamming the roll button and the heal button immediately and then getting hit again.
There was another thread tangentially related to this recently, with a urnalist saying 'I owe my career/lifestyle to the gaming industry.'
I think they're people who make nerdy friends but also go to school for "journalism" and learn they need to "make an impact."
Then they get entitled, either because they never experienced difficult things, or because they take for granted the special access or treatment given by game promoters or devs. Of course, there's also the issue of publishing reviews before everyone else gets their own say. Hard games hinder their capacity to make a complete review, and lower quality reviews could jeopardize their careers.
