What really sucks shit about today's generation of entertainment is that it's every bit as manufactured and controlled as TV, but it comes with the illusion of choice and organic popularity since that's what the internet once provided.

I'll grant that the YouTube grind is brutal and without a talent agency they can absolutely fuck you in the ass without lube, so even if you initially had some organic success, once one of these agencies comes along and offers to "help" you it takes a lot of stones to turn them down. So I guess the social media industry is more like the music industry in that regard.

I mean if you start out just as a guy with a webcam getting approached by a talent agency with a pitch like "look at everyone we manage, we know how to take care of the things you don't want to do" is a pretty easy sell.

Oh, wow. I've been watching Settled and the Gielinor Games over the past year or so, and I noticed when watching Settled that he had a tremendous uptick in quality when he switched from his first UIM series (which wasn't that good, to be honest) to Swampletics. At the time, I thought that was just maturity. Now I wonder if that was when Clover Talent picked him up.

I mean, I still like his videos, but it's a shame that he has a talent agency presumably breathing down his neck, and everyone else's.

Okay, that's a bit better; there's not nearly as big a shift between Swampletics and McTile, so that's some reassurance that he's making the kind of videos he really does want to make.

That is indeed reassuring. He's probably my favorite in that niche space, I really enjoyed McTile and kinda made me sad when it was over.

The song choice for the closing montage of McTile was genius, and made the finale even more compelling and emotional than it already would have been. I'm enjoying LowLife, but it is a shame that the updates are by necessity so infrequent due to how paranoid he has to be.

Explains why a dopey slob like asmon with basic bitch videos suddenly pops up everywhere. I'm sure these companies have special deals to promote their guys over organic content.

In fairness to Asmon, I'm sure a large portion of his audience finds him to be very relatable.

I bet "Early Life" will reveal some interesting things about the guys behind the company.

The only thing surprising about this is that Mr. Beast doesn't own his own talent agency.

Just set that Sociopath on the trail of ruining them. That'd be fun.

The fact that Cenk's Nephew is handled by these guys is legitimately hilarious.

This doesn't come as a surprise to me at all. My son and foster kids all want to be YT stars and mimic stuff from those shows. I watched them and realized how scripted it was in one video. They don't believe me and make sure to squawk and scream whenever they game or put on a VR set.

Somehow Takis are involved. My son wants the Mr Beast meal at Zaxby's all the time. We had never gone to it till then.

Everything is fake and gay.

The minute you start getting successful an army of ticket writers shows up and tells you to play ball or you'll never make it any bigger. For every person with integrity who refuses to be a whore 1000 more take their place.

sidenote: I heard an interesting anecdote about maker studios.

apparently when they were bought out, Disney had no idea how it worked, so they assumed they just had a stable of youtubers in their employ, when in reality, it was more of a voluntary/cooperative network.
