At least the Switch's gimmick was somewhat useful and didn't force games to change themselves around it. If they had packed it with a pro controller on top of the Joycons I'd say it was a great choice but otherwise was a money grubber.
Nintendo 1st Party games can do whatever they want, but when every game that just wanted to release on a console had to involve the Second Screen or include something to deal with motion controls that really fucks up the industry as a whole.
aye, i rember the ds era. the touch screen was forced to be plastered onto a lot of games. sometimes to their detrament. ever play dawn of sarrow with the mod that removes the magic circle bullshit? it plays 100 percent better on the boss encounters. one thing that the touch screen i will admit had good uses for was menu navigation... even then i perfer the old highlight and select methiods.
I played it on release and remember thinking how retarded it was, so I can only imagine how good it is in that regard.
A lot of games did benefit for having it down there for simple menu navigation (I can't ever go back to N64 OoT for example), but for all of those there are ones where its basically forced to be constantly interacted with to a level of coordination that a Korean would struggle at.
At this point I see the razzle-dazzle nonsense as a gate keeping some mainstream titles out and something that strongly differentiates Nintendo within both the console space and within the gaming industry more generally.
As much as I don't care for it, I can see some value in it.
It does push the industry forward in some ways, and I can respect them for that because no one else is. Everyone else is in on the DEI/ESG train or just making nostalgia-bait that's fun for a little while.
Nintendo's insistence of trying something new has at least forced me to buy their hardware, which I can't fault them for because I have zero reason to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X. My poor PS4/XB1 just sit and collect dust. I have no reason at all to use them since most worthwhile games are on the PC.
If they actually make a handheld without any bullshit removable controllers or easily broken peripherals I'll be shocked. Like as not you'll have to charge it via body heat by putting it between your buttcheeks or something equally insane.

Mario and Zelda were fine on the switch. I'd rather the casual play that than call of FIFA madden crush saga. Ideally people would boycott Nintendo for their rabid enforcement of copyright, Sony/MS for corporate faggotry, and so on, but the normie battle has been lost for decades.
The funny thing about the Joycons is that my original pair lasted a couple years, but after that they have all had drift after a month or 2. However, I am using the same pro controllers that I bought with the system 7 years ago. And I use the pro controller an extreme amount more than the joycons. It's fucking retarded.

I kinda lost interest in nintendo after they did paid online (yeah I know it's cheap) and MK8 stopped working without paying the jizya.
Hopefully their next console has analog sticks that last longer than 3 months, and cost less than $100 to replace.
