Keep it authentic to your vision as an author and it might gain a bigger following, if not you'll still have a dedicated niche audience that will always keep the lights on than lose both in the attempts to make it big.
I think Square Enix is in the position they can't afford another flop so if they interfere with this one, expect them to be absorbed very quickly after.

the thing that actually scares the shit out of them is that there is in fact a wide audience for traditional japanese and western values and themes. they have correctly identified this and determined that it must be exterminated with extreme prejudice at every opportunity. if people realized what is going on and how thoroughly they have been lied to, there would be blood and bone to pay.

If it's anything like Trials of Mana, it'll be the bad voice acting and shit sound mixing, but I'll have to wait and see. Seriously, their audio guy needs to be taken out back and fired out of a cannon.
Sigh, guess I gotta look up the series now. I did not play a lot of classics, I know of secret of mana but just never played it. Devs who do not want to lose their vision need to be supposed, kinda hard if I don't know the series first though so I gotta school up on it.

That's really all I ask. For the people that make the games to be able to make them as they see fit.
Whether that means a good game or not is ultimately up to them, instead of a committee of people who think they know better.
